Title: Xbox 360 NAS Streaming
Post by: thunderx2000 on November 09, 2013, 08:11:46 PM
Has anyone else had a problem with streaming media from a non-D-Link NAS? I have everything set up right, I even went as far as calling D-Link tech support and did everything the support rep said to do. But no matter what, I cannot get the Xbox 360 media streaming to stop buffering randomly. Is there a way to fix this? It works fine most of the time on my PS3 and laptop, but the Xbox 360 streaming is a major issue.

If it's ok for other devices, the  problem might be the xbox, or some incompatibility between the router and the xbox. I also use a non dlink nas, but usually I'm not streaming,  I acces the media via nfs share using a mediaplayer. Also it's not a good idea to stream high bitrate media using wireless network.

From what I saw in the "Connected Wireless Client List" in the Status tab of the DIR-868L's login page, the Xbox 360 is being capped at 5Mbps. I say that because I have other devices that are also connected to the router through Wireless-N but the connection ranges from 1Mbps (at idle) to 144Mbps (at load). The Xbox 360's signal strength is 100%.

Ya this is a known issue with xbox slims and there wifi adapters and some dlink routers. I recommend testing the xbox with a wired LAN cable and let us know the results.

If your needing the xbox to be wireless, i recommend getting a DAP model device that you can bridge to the 868 and the connect the slim wired LAN to the back of the DAP. You could get another 868l and bridge it to the main 868 in router mode too. This would be a good upgrade for the xbox. Its what i use for my roommates xbox downstairs until we run wired down there. MS makes a dual band USB adapter that works well.

This has been reported to D-Link. Not sure which is responsible. MS or D-Link.
