so I returned the first 5010 cam as it had WIFI range issues and would not stay connected if I was able to connect. Put the cam next to my extender and it still wouldnt connect. So I got a new. It seems better it can connect but the connection wont stay. Its not my WIFI router that is an issue as my other model Dlink cams ie 942L have no trouble staying connected. I place a 5010 on the same table as a 942 and the 5010 loses its connection after 5 mins. Is this a quality control issue, cheaper WIFI card inside, or who knows. If you own one of these cams do you have similar problems? Its pretty much useless junk to me if it cant stay connected.

I've never had this issue. Are you using a static IP for the camera? If not I recommended you setting one and seeing if that resolves your problem. If you currently have it set to DHCP, does it pick up the same or different IP address when it disconnects/reconnects? Have you upgraded the camera to its latest firmware?

I own a DCS-5020L and DCS-5010L, neither of which experienced any range/connectivity issue. As chuckers points out, I would look at the IP address (static?) and make sure the DCS-5010L IP range is within the same range defined by your router.
I recommend leaving all cameras and router on DHCP, and reserving IP addresses for each network camera in the router. Stay away from static IP addresses as these can cause a conflict and possible connectivity issues unless carefully maintained.
