Title: Cannot connect NAS to network

I was with Virgin and the dns-323 worked fine for years. I have recently moved house and changed to Sky for broadband. The problem I have now is the NAS is not seen on the network and i cannot determine if it the NAS or the new Sky hub causing the problem.
I have changed the ethernet cable and no joy.

If i cannot get the NAS to be active on the network how else can I view the contents on the drives?

There's a good chance that the network address changed when you changed provider equipment and this may be the cause of your problem.

If you have the CD that came with the DNS-323 there is a setup utility on that, if you don't have the CD, it can be downloaded from D-Link support - install that and see if it finds the NAS, if it does it will let you change the network address.

Another possibility is that the old provider equipment allowed you to use a gigabit Ethernet connection and the new equipment doesn't - if you had manually set the speed to gigabit (and not auto), this could prevent you from connecting if the new equipment does not support gigabit speeds.

If the setup utility doesn't work, look at the back panel of the NAS - there is a pin hole reset switch alongside the network port - use that to reset it to default and set up again.

You could also download a copy of SoftPerfect Netscan and find a copy of HoverIP to help find out what is happening.

Use HoverIP to find out the IP address assigned to your PC then use that information to set the range for Netscan to scan.  If your DNS-323 is set to use DHCP then it will appear, if it was set with a fixed IP it may be on another subnet.  From memory (a very long time ago) Virgin used the 192.168.0.x IP range for some of their routers and 192.168.1.x on others, I think it depended if it was fibre or wire.  I don't know anything about the Sky default IP settings.

If you used a fixed IP address for your NAS and remember it, then you should be able to use that to log on to the NAS and change the network settings.
