Multiple Xbox NAT question related to DIR-655:
I have the DIR-655 hooked up through my ATT router in bridge mode (DMZ really) . For a while I had an open NAT on both Xbox’s then, without changing anything, they reverted to a restricted NAT. I rebooted the router and that worked for only one Xbox session.
I followed the QoS setup suggested by FurryNutz but, as far as I could tell, nothing changed and I still had restricted NAT on both consoles.
I now have port forwarding set up for one of the Xbox’s while the other remains NAT restricted.
By the way, I do have UPnP enabled.
Is there nothing I can do? Is a modem upgrade required?

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
- If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm) and How NAT Works (http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/). To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on Router (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=56344.msg219023#msg219023)
If you followed the QoS sticky, did you perform a network factory reset on the 360s, power off then back on then check NAT after configuration of the router?
Which QoS rule did you use? The Multi-Xbox one?

Hey Furry, thanks for the response. I feel lucky to have such a knowledgeable person helping me out. Especially with all the garbage I’ve run across trying to figure this out.
Obviously there is a lot more needed to properly address this issue. I will provide all of that info once I get home tonight.
I think I followed the QoS setup for multiple Xbox’s correctly. I’ll try to post a print screen for that as well.
Thanks again for your help.

Keep us posted and glad to help out. I know it works. I've connected 2x 360s on my routers.
-
You know, I just read the double NAT link you provided and it rings true, especially since the garbage 2-Wire 3801hgv gateway that ATT provided is not capable (I don’t believe) of true bridge mode. I have it setup as a router behind the router with DMZ.
But if that’s true could it work some of the time, like after a router reboot?
I’ll have to check for double NAT by checking the WAN port IP address as described.
-
Even in DMZ I presume it should work.
We have seen some issues with the 360s not correctly reporting NAT and thus the factory reset on the 360s seems to clear this. However you do have a double nat issue with your ISP modem.

OK, I gathered some more info:
Harware: B1
Firmware: 2.10NA
My AT&T gateway is a 2-Wire 3801hgv
Advertised speeds: 1.5Mbps up, 18Mbps down
I live in Michigan
I could not figure out how to paste a screenshot so below are links to my 2nd router (DIR-655) setup and the QoS setup I was using.
Do these look OK? I haven't had a chance to do a factory reset on the XBox's yet.
Any comments/advice is greatly appreciated.

Are you getting a public IP address ON the router now?
Looks good on the QoS rule. ;)
After factory reset on 360s, check NAT. Should be open.
-
OK, I have to admit I'm not sure when you ask if the 2nd router is getting a public IP. When I was first setting up the 2nd router I had read that I should do that but was never sure how to fo about it.
How do I know if the 2nd router is getting a public IP? What do I need to do to make sure that it does?
I can't begin to tell you how gratefull I am for the help. After months of thrashing about, I finally feel that I'm getting close.

I'm know I'm testing your patience Fuzzy but from the screenshot below, does it appear that I have the 2nd router setup correctly?
-
Yes the 655 is getting a Public IP address. You should be good now.
I recommend you block out the viewing and display of the IP address in those pictures. ;)

Gotcha...thanks Furry.

Thanks for looking out Furry.
I just realized I've been getting confused between Furry and Fuzzy Nutz. :D
-
;)
Could be the same too. hehe.
One you set up QoS, you should be good to go.
-
Had open NAT on both last night. 8)
I hope it stays that way. Thanks for all your help Furry.
-
Glad it's working. Enjoy. ;)

Hi,
I came across this post when I was googling my problem, but I have the same exact problem. I have a D link 655 and an ATT 2wire 3801HGV, and I had two xbox ones running open for awhile and they just switched to strict the other day. I was using uPnP, and I think I have the bridge correctly set up because like Furry said under Wan on my d link page I am getting a different IP address then a 198.168.... one. So what might my problem be?

- Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)
- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
Have you set up a global multi console rule in QoS as seen here?

Use 0.0.0.0 and 255.255.255.255 for the Remote IP Address ranges.
