Title: My Network Active Devices stops functioning every 2-3 days
Post by: B.Banner on December 04, 2013, 11:53:06 AM
Every 2 to 3 days the "My Network" page stops functioning on the router.  I see no devices in the "My Network" or "Priorities" page so I'm unable to view device bandwidth or modify device priorities.  I've tried multiple browsers with the same results.  As soon as I reboot the router those pages work as expected again.  I saw a similar post that mentioned making sure all devices have a reserved dhcp and I'm trying that now.  Any ideas?

標hat Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
A1
標hat Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.

標hat region are you located?
California, USA
柊re you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Both wired and wireless used
菱as a Factory Reset been performed?
Yes
標as a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
Yes
標as the router working before any firmware updates?
Unknown, I updated the firmware as soon as I got the router

Both wired and wireless devices disappearing?

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

The next time it happens I will try Chrome wit those settings.  I have tried IE11 normal and compatibility mode as well as Firefox and cleared cache.  When it happens ALL devices disappear.  I even tried navigating directly to http://dlinkrouter/selectnode.asp?nodeid=router and there's nothing there.  Priorities menu is completely empty as if there are no devices.  Actual operation appears to be unaffected as I still have internet on my wired computer and on the wireless xbox one.

For wired I have two computers running windows 8.1 and one Xbox One.  On wireless there's a iPhone, an Android device, and another Xbox One.

Not even a full day of uptime and already the devices disappeared...  Should I restore factory defaults and re-flash once more?  Also the "Usage By Time" statistics page does not function.  I tested this with IE11, Firefox, and now a fresh Chrome install with the suggested settings and they all don't work.  If I were to reboot the router right now the devices will show up again.  I don't get it.

Yes please do a factory reset, re-load FW, factory reset once more then set up from scratch. Please use IE or FF to do the FW load.

I'll forward this on to D-Link for review...Keep us posted.

I put my 5500 back online today and will check back on if my network icons are missing. They are appearing and listed...for now.  ::)

Thanks.  I'll do the re-load after the internet isn't being used in the house later tonight and get back to you.  I left it as-is for the day to see if the devices would ever re-populate without a reboot and it's still empty.

From what I understand, the devices will disappear after a period of time when inactive. I presume that some of your devices are always on and active?

Even if all devices were inactive the computer viewing the router page should still show up as well as the router itself connected to the modem.  The priorities page should also always be there even for inactive devices so you can change the priorities around.  Instead the page goes completely blank and not a single device ever shows up again until a reboot.  So far it's working with almost a full day of uptime I'll keep checking it.

Also, the "Usage By Time" Statistics now has info after the re-flash as seen here:
http://home.comcast.net/~cc_silent/dgl5500/Statistics.1.jpg
 (http://home.comcast.net/~cc_silent/dgl5500/Statistics.1.jpg)
I can only get Usage By Time statistics working in IE11 or Chrome.  Firefox displays a blank page.  However, the drop menu's on the right side for "Usage By Time" do not function.  Can you check your router and let me know if they work for you?  When I select "Last Day" or "Last Week"  it still shows last month like the menu's don't work.  Same thing if I try to select one of my devices it still shows the "All Devices" statistics.  Let me know if those drop down menu's work for you.  I tried all three browsers.

Awesome, new beta to try?  What about the drop down menu's on the "Usage By Time" statistics page.  Do those work for you?

Yes.

No, those drop down menus don't work for me...However I just put my 5500 online yesterday so there may not be enough data in the history yet. I'll check later today and tomorrow.

Stopped working again today so it's definitely a problem with the router :(  Seems to happen shortly after I modify my priority list.  My Network,  Priorities, and Statistics stop functioning.  The Statistics presents the following message in all three browsers:

And does rebooting the router fix this?

And does rebooting the router fix this?
Yes for another 1-3 days and then needs another reboot.  I'm going to try another factory reset but this time try turning on my devices in the priority order that I want so that I don't need to go to the priority page at all.  I want to see if the problem still happens if I never go to the priority page.

Ok thank you for looking into this with me.  I appreciate it.  Also I haven't had time to go through the list of reported bugs but I noticed after a factory reset when you go through the initial automated setup and enter a password it doesn't correctly save the password.  For instance, each time I do the initial auto setup I enter the password, turn on the verification image option, and let it reboot, the image verification is turned on but the actual password is blank.  So I have to log on with a blank password, set up the password once more, and then it is correctly set.  Not a big deal but just wanted to make sure it's reported.

I wanted to report that on the most recent factory reset I disabled the media server and never messed with the priority settings and I'm currently at 4 days uptime with the "My Network" and "Statistics" pages still functioning.  If this keeps up it looks like either the media server or manual priorities is the culprit.

On a side note I'm highly impressed with Streamboost.  As seen in the below screenshot, I had two Windows PCs downloading Diablo 3 with Peer-to-Peer enabled and was streaming a tv show on the Xbox One.  The router balanced the bandwidth flawlessly and tv stream was full hd the entire time no interrupts.  I was also playing World of Warcraft at the same time with a 25ms ping no lag and no packet loss.  WOW!

Awesome info...I believe i have MS enabled as well. Soon as I get home I'll disable it and see what happens. I'll forward this onto D-Link as well.

Thanks for sharing and keep us posted.

Enjoy.  ;D

Stopped working again :(  Doesn't seem to be related to anything.  I'll just wait for the next firmware release.

Please be patient.

Any word on when we'll be getting new firmware?  The longer I wait the more I'm wishing I would have went with the Asus RT-AC68U :(  I seem to have a Skype problem as well with this router that I never experienced before.  Usually when I game with my cousin (who is in the other room) we have Skype going and now every few minutes we have to restart the Skype call because I can no longer hear him but he can still hear me.  Odd.

Just wanted to report that I rebooted the router to fix the usual Network Devices/Statistics bug and now Skype works as expected.  So it appears that the problem is more than just the router page but also effects the functionality of the router itself.

I've been testing some new settings and I've currently got the router stable for 6 days with everything working still.  If I hit 10 days uptime I'll post my recommended settings and maybe furry can test to confirm as a workaround until the next firmware.

Can you please post the settings your using?
What Firmware are you currently running?

I've been tinkering with my router all weekend and haven't had any improvement. perhaps your settings could help.
Also, now after restoring firmware & adjusting settings, know I have to restart the router EVERY morning because all my Wifi Devices don't connect to the internet. They all show connected to the router, but no internet access and I can not connect to the router through a web browser to reboot. I o pull the plug every morning.
Thanks!

I'll post my settings in a few days.  I'm using the latest firmware. For the problem u are experiencing can you try turning off DNS Relay and enter a local domain name. Something like dgl5500.local

Both of those settings are under Setup -> Network Settings

If that doesn't work then manually enter DNS settings under Setup -> Internet -> Manual Internet Connection Setup -> Primary/Secondary DNS

Just disabling the DNS relay and imputing a local domain name should resolve it. Also try connecting to the router through the 192.168.0.1 and not dlinkrouter.local.  Reboot the router/clients after these changes. Let me know how it goes.

It would be helpful to post your settings now so that users can try them. Regardless if they work for you or not, they could be helpful for others.  ::)

I'm running my 5500 again under new code...will let you know how it works later on this week.

Does disabling DNS Relay and enter a local domain name work with static IP addresses set at the local computers? When I changed these I lost internet connection on my static IP devices (Server and Laptop). Changing these to dynamic IP and then setting up reservations for these two devices gave internet connectivity back.
Thanks!

Yes it will. It's recommended to always use IP reservations on the devices instead of static IPs.
