Title: Hard drive failure?

Hi everybody. Last night, when I started watching a movie, it suddenly stopped and my wdtv could no longer access the DNS-320. I turned it off and on again and I saw that the right HDD led did not turn on. I rebooted it again and the same thing happens.

My DNS-320 has two 2TB Seagate Barracuda. Volume 1 is in raid 1 (500 gb mirrored) and Volume 2 is 3TB in JBOD.

Now, while I can power on the DNS-320, I cannot access the drives.

I read that, when a drive is not working, the HDD led turns amber. In my case it does not turn on. Does this mean that my HDD is dead? Is there something I can do?

Some suggestions.

Open the box and remove and replace the drive in question then start the NAS and check if the drive LED lights - no need to replace the cover unless everything works.

If it still does not work download some of the programs/ifs mentioned in the sticky 
DNS-320 - Data Recovery (Windows PCs) as well as the Seagate disk tools.  You will also need a USB/SATA caddy or adapter.  Install the software - reboot if necessary (assuming your OS is windows) - fit the drive in the caddy or attach the adapter then plug it in and see if it is recognised as a hard disk.

If the computer recognises that there is a hard disk attached run the disk tools to check the disk is working and accessible.

If the disk is good you have a faulty NAS, if the disk is bad you might be able to copy some of your data using the software in the sticky DNS-320 - Data Recovery (Windows PCs) but I recommend that you restore to a new drive from your backup.
