Hi,
my DNS-320 started reporting SMART failures on one of my HDDs which are set up in a RAID 1 config.
I have gone in and run some more tests using smartctl and identified and zeroed out a bad sector. SMART now reports both disks as passing.
However, as I'm at 90% capacity it may be time to replace the two 2TB Samsung F4 EcoGreen disks with 3TB disks.
So, can I whip out one of the 2TB disks, replace with a 3TB disk and let it rebuild, then repeat the process with a second 3TB disk?
Also, any suggestions for the new 3TB disks?
Thanks,
b.

Do what you describe and you will end up with a 2GB RAID 1 and two 1GB standard partitions.
What you should be doing is to make sure you have a dependable backup of your data then remove both of the old drives and replace them with the larger drives, format them as RAID 1 and then restore from your backup. Just remember that this will take time if you are at 90% capacity.

Ahh - I see the challenge there.
Thanks for the info.
I guess I'll have to somehow mount one of the existing disks externally and copy the data over. 2TB is going to take a while ...

Butting in, could you move one of the old raid1 drives to a USB case and then copy the data to the new raid (old drives in the 320 replaced with new larger ones)? Or is this not supported?
