I have a RAID 1 w/2 1TB drives. I pulled one of the drives before updating the firmware from 1.05 to 1.07, in case something went wrong. After restarting, the config page says I need to format. I skipped this. It appears that I can still access all the content, but also when I try to install the BitTorrent support via teh Easy Search utility, it says that I need to format the drive.
I know all the "you should back up first" warnings. I am tempted to back the firmware back to 1.05. Is my data currently at risk? If not, how can I reset the "must be formatted" status (I have telnet access enabled).
Thanks,
Bill...

Is my data currently at risk?
At risk from what?... You need to answer that question first.
But, I believe you already know the answer, you have read the warnings.
<blunt_on>
backup up your data,
reformat the disks
move on
<blunt_off>
It's your data, only you can determine how valuable it is, then do what is
necessary to protect that data.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but, the second hard drive that you initially took out, can't you just put that into a Windows system and use it?
Or is that not possible as the NAS drive uses Linux?

@mig: risk of actually the data on the disk actually having been corrupted by the 1.07 boot-up.
@ ShMiCk: Yeah... At least I knew that I could still access data from the other drive... that's why I did that! :-)
Well... there does seem to be a problem with 1.07, because after writing my post, I installed 1.06 and all was fine! No errors reported. I then reinserted the removed drive and it synced.
Is there somewhere I might report this behavior as a possible bug? (I've never had to reformat my drives upgrading the firmware, in the past, despite the warnings of risks).

I wouldn't be so quick to come to the conclusion that there is a firmware bug. Somewhere along the
firmware progression (I forget which firmware versions), the disk structure changed from two
partitions to three partitions. The new (third) partition was created for use with the BT application,
to store configuration files, etc.
It could be that FWv1.07's easy search utility is looking for the third partition and is requesting that
you reformat your disks in order to create the third partition.

UPDATE:
I subsequently backed out the 1.07 for 1.06. Everything is now as I would have expected... it booted fine with the single disk, with no errors or warnings to format. I was able to run Easy Search. I, then, reinserted the 2nd drive and it resynced the drives. Everything seems fine.
Is it true that 1.07 changed the formatting requirements?
