Title: Setting up DGL-5500 for optimal performance?
Post by: primetyme playr on December 10, 2013, 07:33:54 AM
Does the 5500 need to be configured a certain way, like the 4500 for Xbox one? Examples, port forwarding, priorities, etc. I will have 2 Xbox ones, 1 xbox 360, and multiple wireless connections. I'm somewhat a beginner at the whole computer thing, so be patient with me please. Thanks

Not really, SB handles most of the optimization.

Mid Atlantic region of the US. I followed your guide on setting up the 4500, and it worked flawlessly. I wasn't sure if their was something similar. Thanks

Ya, mostly the 4500 sticky may not apply for the 5500. When it some to SB and using it. For the most part, let the 5500 do everything. Setting up IPs and Wifi is good though and the other features. You won't need or should not need any Port Forwarding or anything like that for gaming. Unless an application or game needs some odd ball specific port opened. SB and uPnP should handle most anything.

Enjoy.

Sounds good, thanks. It currently has FW 1.01, do I need to configure the router before installing the new FW 1.11? The router is still NIB, never hooked up or can I just install new FW and start to configure after update?

Go directly to install new FW if you want to, then do one more factory reset, then run thru the wizard while routers connected to your ISP Modem and use that to set up the router.

Or test the 5500 out of the box...  ::)

So far, so good. Only have 1 of the 2 Xbox ones hooked up right now, hopefully no problems when I get the other one hooked up. Thanks
