I picked up an DIR-868L this week after not being able to pass up a deal on it. I got it to replace my DGL-4500 router. For anyone that knows much about the DGL-4500 it was plagued by firmware issues. I was lucky enough to get mine with one of the original firmware version for it and never upgraded after reading all the issues on this forum. Especially the issue of not being able to flash backwards to an older version. Anyway should I update the firmware on my 868? Are there any drawbacks to doing so? I haven't hooked it up yet so I don't know what version it came loaded with, but updating the fw was going to be one of my first things I do before configuring it. Any suggestions much appreciated.

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Its recommended to try the 868L router before updating. If it works, don't fix it.
FYI, there was only 1 build of FW for the DGL-4500 that is some issues. Other than this, it depended upon which Rev you had that it would not work well. There could be other external or user configuration conditions that could be effecting 4500 or any router.
I've had the 4500 soon after it came out and have never had issues with it. The 4500 is a rock solid router. One of the best that D-Link ever same out with. I have 3 of them.
If your going to update FW, please always follow this:

I haven't had any firmware update issues. I gone both directions without any problems with the flashing process.
