FYI: I had a hard drive failure in a two disk RAID-1 setup on a DNS-321. When I went to format the new drive, I got error 107.
But moving:
$ mv /net/dns321/mnt/HD_a2/fun_plug /net/dns321/mnt/HD_a2/fun_plug-old
and rebooting did the trick. Once formatting was done and I rebooted, I then:
$ mv /net/dns321/mnt/HD_a2/fun_plug-old /net/dns321/mnt/HD_a2/fun_plug
and rebooted a third time. Success!

Same thing here, had to rename fun_plug to fun_plug_OFF (I used SSH to access the file system) and restart, then the drive reformat and RAID 1 rebuild would work.
I still do not know why it reported my RAID 1 was degraded, both drives tested fine with various drive testing programs. Must have been a software glitch, not a hardware problem.
