I have a DIR-655 that I'm trying to use with the new comcast router, I think it's a RCA model (not wireless)
I want the DIR-655 to function as a wireless access point, basically taking the comcast router internet and making it wirless. On the DIR-655 I logged in, disabled dhcp, set a static IP and setup the wirless.
The notebooks and desktops can connect to the wirless signal but they won't pull an IP address for some reason, I had this working before when I had AT&T with the Motorola wireless routers but for some reason the comcast setup refuses to work. ???

You should have DHCP enabled. Comcast will only assign 1 IP address to you unless you purchase more. So your DIR 655 needs to be running DHCP and NAT. This is how mine is setup on comcast, and it works fine for me. Comcast will assign the IP to the router, the router will assign IP's to the machines from the DHCP pool, and the NAT will ensure that your public IP is switched in place of the DHCP addresses on all outbound traffic.

I enabled dhcp and now the machines are pulling ips but they seem to be internal and they still can't connect to the internet. I'm also not finding anything that let's me enable or disable NAT

Also I'm assuming I should be plugged into one of the 4 lan ports and not the wan port.

Thanks for the suggestions got it working. Not sure exactly what I did, plugged it into the internet port on the dlink, set to dhcp and switched the actual cable and boom it started working. Now I has done this all before but using the cable comcast brought, I changed to one of my older cables and it all started working. Hate to think it was just a cable all this time, but who knows lol

Yes, they are supposed to be internal ip addresses.
As with every new device plugged into the modem, you have to unplug the power cord to the modem. Unplug power cord from the router. wait about 10 seconds, 30, if you have patience (but not necessary), plug power into modem. Wait for blocksync. Then plug in power to router.
It's the same thing Comcast tech is going to tell you to do, if they don't refer you to dlink support :P. We hate these types of calls.
If you have setup the router properly for static ip, then you should be all set to go at this point. you can always log into the router, go to tools>system check, and type in a url like www.comcast.com or www.google.com and hit ping. You should see something OTHER than "destination host unreachable" or "request timed out".
don't forget to hit stop.
If you get responses from whatever address you ping, then the router has internet access. If your PC's don't, then it's LAN misconfiguration, or your firewalls blocking the new network.
