Title: Help with Access Control. Any tips?
Post by: Pablofp on January 01, 2014, 03:06:11 AM
In my new  DSL-2890AL, I have been able to close access for iDevices at night. I would like to close some websites during the day for the same iDevices.
I set up two Policies, but it seems I cannot run both together. I had the day restriction first, and the night closure never went into effect. Only when I deleted the day restriction, the night closure got active. Is this a limitation or I am missing something about Access Control?
Another question is about Schedules. I have set up a Night (9pm to 9am) Schedule. Would this be OK?
If a device has a policy, what happens during the time with no policy? Free access?
Any suggestion for setting up these two policies? Would it be possible to have 3 policies for the same devices?
Thanks in advance,
Pablo

This help any?
To set up scheduling:
1. Reserve device IP addresses ON the router under Setup/Networking.
2. Set up a schedule under Tools/Schedule on the routers web page. Customize your dates and times here.
3. Use Access Control under Advanced to apply the customized schedule to a policy and to the PC(s) desired to be controlled.
4. Ensure Time is set correctly on the router. Tools/Time.

You reply seems a kind of "standard" reply, but, in any case:

Hardware DSL-2890AL
Firmware: AU_1.02.02 (I know there is a 1.02.04, I will update this next weekend)
Australia

I've already set up scheduling, no problem with that... I would like some answers to my questions.

Best,

Another question is about Schedules. I have set up a Night (9pm to 9am) Schedule. Would this be OK? This should work.

If a device has a policy, what happens during the time with no policy? Free access? If the policy doesn't have a time schedule, then it would be based on open free time.

Any suggestion for setting up these two policies? Would it be possible to have 3 policies for the same devices? Id start with one policy, and see how it works, then setup a 2nd one then the 3rd. See what happens.
Thanks in advance,
Pablo
