Title: FTP Question
Post by: jrbilodeau on May 28, 2009, 04:50:14 AM
Hey, i'm glad to see everything thats going on with the new firmware. i'm not testing it but i've been keeping up to date with whats happening with it so far. just a question. has any one tried to use the ftp with tls/ssl only turned on and try to access it externally. just wondering because i know it was an issue before where you could only do it internally or in a DMZ with 1.06

thanks

Does your post suggest that FW 1.08 includes an option to *require* users to use FTP employing SSL/TLS? How can I do that in FW 1.06? I don't want my users to regular, insecure FTP.

Yes you can set the ftp server to only accept secure connections in 1.08.
And you can do nothing in earlier versions as 1.06.

My 323 is running on 1.08 now, and I have sftp enabled and required. FTP connections fail, sftp works. Now my 323 has a private IP and is NAT'ed. I have setup a port forward on my Linux router, and I can connect to it through sftp without problems.

Tom,
Could you post your sftp server settings that you have set on your 323 and what port you have it set to? I cant seem to get my ftp or sftp server working.

Thanks

Nothing special really:

What are you trying to achieve? Do you have fun_plug running?

I just would like to get my ftp server up again. No i currently do not have fun plug setup. This is just a factory 323 that i flashed to the 1.08 firmware. Previously i had a ftp server running on it which had 0 issues, NAT routing was setup and everything and now it no longer works.

In order to troubleshoot I'd setup fun_plug so you have shell access to the box. That way you can have a look at what processes are running and what your conf file looks like.

Hello Tom,

When you says that you can connect by sftp are you talking about FTPES in filezilla? because for me FTPES is working but not SFTP? Not sure what is the security difference?

Thanks.

No, I'm using SFTP, which is FTP over SSH2 iirc. Are you running SSH on another port than 22?

Where can I specify the port for SSH?
Thanks.

I wouldn't worry if FTPES works.
