You might reload FW with a factory reset before and after then setup from scratch using IE or FF. Ensure any browser add-ons are disabled. The run thru that list. Post back with results and feedback with questions presented and if any of the suggestions work...

If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on Router
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

the wan ip is my IP so i guess that means the modem dosent operate as an router

DNS Relay should be under Setup/Networking. If you can disable that, Manually input your ISPs DNS IP addresses into Setup/Internet/Manual.

Was a factory reset performed before and after updating to v1.04 then setting up from scratch?

Post by: Nymark on January 05, 2014, 01:38:22 PM
the problem was there when i recieved the router (tried reseting it ALOT of times), so i thought maybe a firmware upgrade might have helped it didnt, and after that i have tried several resets

also should i enable dns relay again?

If you disable the WiFi, does the router still exhibit this behavior? If so, then there is either a problem with the router, FW or the ISP modem.

it still occurs after disabling wi-fi..

any other ideas ? :(

Ok so that rules our WiFi, so There is a problem with the router or between the router and ISP modem...

Next step would be to factory reset, reload FW, factory reset and setup from scratch if you have not done this already...

I'd also recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

An extreme test would be to take this router to a friends or families place and test it there, if the problem follows, then you'll know the router is bad. Get in contact with D-Link for an RMA. If it doesn't follow, then the problem is with the ISP services or ISP modem.

will probably try taking it to a friends place first, sounds much easier :)

I will update the thread when i have the result

also one last thing would using an alternate dns help the problem or does this has nothing to do with the problem? i dont know THAT much about routers, so it might be a stupid question

No such thing as a stupid question.  ::)

DNS does matter to a point, I'd test both your ISPs default DNS and give this a try and see if anything else helps as a test:

Either take the 636L back for refund or if you can't, contact D-Link support and get an RMA. Sorry this one didn't work for you.  :-\

Good Luck.
