well i don't know what else to say, me and my family are using it, suddenly we find ourselves disconnected, i search for the network, its no where to be found, tried my laptop, my phone, home PC, nothing, restart the router and there it is again, happens multiple times a day, pretty frustrating to be honest
another problem is gaming, i have 16 mbps from my ISP, since we changed routers and got the dlink, we've been having problems, general slowness, gaming lags (league of legends) randomly spikes
help me please, sorry if i did anything wrong, first time on forums
thanks in advance

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41537.0)
- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
-
Hardware version: A1
Firmwire: 1.04
im located in the middle east, Dubai, United Arab Emirates to be exact.
ISP: DSL
Modem Mfr: XAVI Technologies corporation
Model name: EG102
-
also is there a QoS option in my router? would enabling it help my gaming needs?
-
We need to know if the ISP modem has a built in router or not:
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
- If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm) and How NAT Works (http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/). To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on Router (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=56344.msg219023#msg219023) - Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
Where did you get yor router from? Did it come loaded with v1.04 or did you update it? If you updated to v1.04, did you follow this? FW Update Process (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42457.0)
There is some QoS game rule that we can probably set up. What game platform do you use? PC, XBL or PS?
Can you run thru the following and let us know the results?
Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
- Turn off ALL QoS (http://vonage.nmhoy.net/qos.html) or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality_of_service) or Gamefuel.
- Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
- Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
- Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53222.0)
- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
- Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
- If IPv6 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipv6) is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
- Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPI) to test.
- Enable uPnP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upnp) and Multi-cast Streaming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast) under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
- Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
- WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
- Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48695.0) feature. Tools/Time.
- Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)
Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) and Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0) and Good Neighbour Policy (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=10634.0)
- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers:[/b] Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
- What wireless devices do you have connected?
- Any cordless house phones?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?
- If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/30969-what-do-80211ns-optional-features-mean-for-you), WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
6" minimum safe distance between devices.
3rd Party Security Software Configurations
- Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
- Turn off all devices accept for one wired LAN PC while testing.
- Disable any downloading client software managers, i.e. Torrents or similar.
Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Any status on this? ???

hey, sorry for the late reply
ISP modem - DL: 16 Mbps. UP: 2 Mbps
the modem has no built in router
i tried the ISP MTU, and all i got a reply from the first try (1472)
for DSL/PPPoE, where do i check that? under what tab?
i got the router from carrefour (brand new), as far as i know, it was already 1.04.
we are PC gamers
QoS: ALL OFF
Advance DNS: OFF
FOR WIRELESS NOW:
the original SSID is changed, and it is unique
Wireless Band : 2.4GHz Band
Wireless Radio : Enabled
802.11 Mode : Mixed 802.11n, 802.11g and 802.11b
Channel Width : Auto 20/40 MHz

wireless devices? we have our phones (all androids) and laptops.
no cordless phone
any routers? well we live in a building so there are the neighbors
all of the family uses either chrome or FF
the router is placed in a safe place away from any electronics and it is on the table (not too low, not too high)
-
if you need to check it yourself, we can skype and i can share screens, or use teamviewer (where you control my laptop using my username and pass)
-
also how do i know if a channel is clear or not?
-
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?

-
oh maybe i should have mentioned this, we have the D-Link DAP 1320 connected (the wireless extender)
-
Lets unplug the DAP while we check and test the 835 out first so we can make sure thats working first, then we can try adding the DAP later.
-
ok its unplugged, now whats the plan for testing?
-
Does the wireless still disappear?
How far away is the devices from the router?
Where is the router placed? Centrally in the building or at one end? Centrally in the building on the main floor is preferred.
Please try the following:
- 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz.
-
the devices are not that far, 2 tables apart, yes it randomly disappears.
the router is in the apartment so same floor, in the living room far from any other electronics, central location
we use the 2.4Ghz (we cant find the 5Ghz but maybe thats because of our network adapters)
Wireless Band : 2.4GHz Band
Enable Wireless : Always
Wireless Network Name : Kobeissi Residence (Also called the SSID)
802.11 Mode : mixed N and G
Enable Auto Channel Scan : enabled
Wireless Channel: automatically set
Channel Width : auto 20/40 MHz
Visibility Status : Visible
-
WPA personal is the security
-
Keeping same settings, change the channel to 4 then test 8...
I think your problem on 2.4Ghz is that you have near by neighboring WiFi interferences...
-
i can change the channel, but my question is, how will i know if its fixed or not?
i mean it happens randomly i cant recreate it
-
You'll need to test it out for a while and see...
Also try this as well:
- Try setting Medium or Low power output settings and test again Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
-
alright will change them, will post reply in few days once i see results
-
I belive the problem is that your neighbor (dlink) is also on channel 11 and maybe the cause of your experiences. I hope that changing to channel 4 or maybe 1 will help...
-
i placed it on the N and G mixed
changed the channel from auto to channel 4
-
Ok, give it some time and let us know...
-
will do, thanks for your help and patience with my ignorance :p studying networking IT 1st year uni
-
Glad to be of help...
-
ok well it seemed to be working fine, but i had to change it back to channel 11 since my dad's laptop was unable to connect to the router :(
-
Is channel 11 a open channel. I would go back to the prior channel then re-test your fathers LT.
The LT should connect on any channel. Ensure the WiFi drivers are up to date on the LT. Remove the WiFi preset profile on the LT and then install a new profile.
I think your wireless issues have been solved though by changing to a channel that's not being used. When you think all is good, you could re-install the DAP and test again.
-
ill try...will post update in few days..thx
-
;)
-
problem persists, thank you for all your help. i will just buy another router :) appreciate your assistance
-
Maybe someone can review the router settings if your interested remotely.
Good luck.
-
Do you still have the 835 router?
