Title: GO-RT-N300 Wireless slows down internet connection (wifi)
Post by: romannet on January 08, 2014, 10:31:13 AM
Hello,
I am not sure, if this topic is on a right place, anyway I have a problem with GO-RT-N300 D-link router.

I have a 120Mb internet connection. When I connect through normal FTP cable, I can have more then 100Mb (even thought router) anyway when I am connected using wifi, I cannot have more then 40Mb.

I did update of firmware - no chance
I checked channels and switched to free one - no chance

Can anybody advise me how to solve it? I have connected about 4-5 devices in my network and even if all devices except of one labtop are disconnected there is no speed up.

Thanks for any advices.

Is here a DIR model number on you unit?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

It's not recommended to speed test via wireless as it can produce inaccurate results due to many variables with WiFi and environments...

Ok, I understand, but it is not just about speed test result, but also downloads are 3times slower then through cable. I have router about 3 meters from my labtops and does not metter on place in my flat. It is same on all places.

Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm) and How NAT Works (http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/). To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

I am sorry, but I cannot find QoS option on my D-link modem. Can you please specify where it should be? I tried your path, but have only Basic settings, Wireless settings (+advanced, but it is not there), advanced settings (not there), maintanence, help..

thanks

Ok. looking at the user manual, this model ROUTER does not have QoS. Only Traffic Control. Pg 38.

So disregard the QoS suggestion...

ok so any other ideas? Because I have tried everything..isnt it possible that it is caused by router itself? Low performance or anything like this?

IF you shut off the WiFi radio and just connect a wired PC to the router, does the Internet still slow down?

Disable the Traffic Control as well.

Router Placement

6" minimum safe distance between devices.

Wireless Configurations

Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Yes I changed it to uneque name

What wireless modes are you using?
2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?

I tried mixed and also only N mode - still same

Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
tried both - still same

Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.

Only channel 5 was unsed so tried that. Channels 1 and 6 has more then 6 users

What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.

Tried all options, now I have a auto TPIK and EAS

What wireless devices do you have connected?
2 labtops, one mobile, TV and xbox

Any cordless house phones?
no

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
yes, but not directly in my flat. I guess at least about 10 routers

If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I did not find them. Using default settings

Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Sorry I did not find WMM option, maybe different name.

Try setting Medium or Low power output settings and test again Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
tried - still same

The closets eletronic device around router is about 3 meters far away from router. Only one device around is modem.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and review of your router and see if they might fix this or, send it in for RMA.

Let us know how it goes.
