Is both wired and wireless dropping internet or just wireless?
Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) if your interested. Its safe and secure.

- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
- What wireless devices do you have connected?
- Any cordless house phones?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out. How many?
- If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/30969-what-do-80211ns-optional-features-mean-for-you), WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Is this happening on both radios or just one?

on both

Tons of other WiFi around huh? Possible cause of issues on wireless as wired seems to work for you.
Disable HT 20/40 Co-existence on the 2.4Ghz radio?
-
ok So I Disabled HT 20/40 Co-existence on the 2.4Ghz radio I will let you know how it goes.
I: have not had any problems with wireless with this router it just started giving me problems about 4 days ago I cant Seem to figure out why thank you!!
-
Keep an eye on those other WiFi routers near by, and any other electronic devices as well.
Keep us posted.

Can you post a screen capture of the inSSIDer results for your area please?
-
Ok, so it looks like your channels are on 6 for 2.4Ghz and 44 on 5Ghz?
If so, then your 2.4Ghz is still running on same channels and your neighbors. This is probably causing problems. Lets try channel 11 first.
I see you have a 5Ghz neighbor up on 149 and yours is on 44. This should be ok.
Also you need to change the SSID names from dlink and dlink-media to something else. Something fun can be the name and you can add 2.4 and 5 to the names so you know whats what.
I believe you have a WiFi congestion problem here.
-
so i factory reset again and left it unplugged for 24hours and it is still droping wireless it keeps dropping and reconnecting

Going to recommend that you phone contact D-Link support and get some help there. Possible there is a problem with the router. Ask for an RMA.
Let us know how it goes.

Hey Grinch I was wondering if your playing games online with a console or pc when it drops?
This is the same issue i've been having for awhile playing games over my Xbox 360 slim.
I'll try to keep it short. I knew a few months back that i would be getting an Xbox One. I knew i wanted my 360 to be moved to my bedroom. So as a quick test i disconnected my wired connection to see how wireless would be while playing. It wasn't pretty my router was about 10 feet or so away from my Xbox and it was laggy and after awhile of playing wireless would drop. I quickly gave in and hardwired my console back!
Last month i finally got my Xbox One (hurray) and moved my Xbox 360 slim into my bedroom. I've noticed the lag and had way to may drops. I changed my channel to 6 and put my router to wireless N only. Most people in my apartment complex are on channels 1 or 11. This has helped some but i still see bad lag and disconnects. My bedroom is only about 40 feet from the router.
This seems to only happen when i'm playing a game! I have Pandora streaming to my Xbox 360 over wireless for hours no drops. I noticed when i'm disconnected from wireless on the Xbox all other devices loose wireless until i completely reboot my Xbox. Then the wireless comes back. Last night i was playing on Xbox while my wife had the Wii U on (it's hardwired) wireless dropped lost connection to XBL at the same time the Wii U stopped Playing Hulu. Rebooted Xbox wireless came back had to restart my Wii U as well to regain connection.
I notice this really bad while trying to play Defiance or Gta5. Defiance is worse though i get next to a couple hundred people and bam lag. It seems when this is happening it tries to correct itself sometimes it does but it's rare. Makes me wonder if StreamBoost is the issue over wireless?
I've tried different channels, auto 20\40 on and off, HT20/40 coexistence on and off
Still the same issues.
Xbox One (wired) works ok see a bit of lag wondering if streamboost needs to work on it?
Xbox 360 (wireless) laggy broken dropping/ when wired flawless loved it
Wii U (wired) no issue
Pc (wireless) I wire it up for FW updates no issues
2 Huawei android phones (wireless) no issue
Furry do any of your friends or people at D-link have an Xbox 360 slim they can test this issue on? I'm outa ideas.
Thanks much
VaultOverseer

Just found out my wireless adapter shows me what type of networks and channels are in my area. So I'm gonna test wireless G only because all of the wireless in my area is N. Also put my computer on 5 ghz. I'll report back in a few days to let you know if I lag and drop connection on my 360.
-
It drops randomly I get lag spikes wireless with xbox one and xbox 360 I might have found a fix to the wireless drops cant post link because I don't think we can post links in forum but this is what i came up with conflict ion between NETBIOS and NETBUI in Windows 7 furry if you want I can send you the link.

Please post in the thread is ok...any info regarding resolution will be helpful...
PM me if you want to...

So this seems to fix your issues? ???

After much testing I found my computer drops connection to internet but not the router.
Only when trying to use dual band 5ghz.
I tried that fix grinch posted it didn't work. I sat for hours trying to get it to work with every possible wireless config.
Every time i would reconnect to the internet and try to serf i would loose dns but would stay connected to the router. Like what the link says.
When it comes to my Xbox 360 and pc lag and disconnects. Wireless N seems to be the issue.
It won't stay connected and while playing games it lags like crazy.
So when i tried N only on 2.4 lag and dissconects on pc and xbox.
When i tried 5ghz dual band on my pc i had the issue mentioned in grinch's link.
Tried N only all the way to ac... on 5ghz no luck.
I did the exact thing on 2.4ghz no luck.
After setting for wireless G only on 2.4ghz and giving up on 5ghz for my pc.
Those issues seem to have gone away.
So I'm using wireless G only on my pc and my Xbox 360 with no issues.
I don't think that's a good fix although it works.
I tried from G only to all. On both 2.4 and 5 ghz
G is the only thing that seems stable.
As a side note Xbox One is wired with what seems like a good connection but I get lag in my games online. I think this may be something on the streamboost side that needs a bit of work.
Test on Xbox One is as follows
28.28 Down
4.78 up
no packet loss up or down
Mtu 1480....seems odd but i think Xbox One is locked at that can someone confirm??
ping 42 ms
When I had my Xbox 360 wired it was smooth as butter. Though i'd mention that so Qualcomm can do some work on it.
If there's any more info you need Sir Furry please ask. I love D-link and this router and want it to be the best it can be :)

- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
- Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
- Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
- Turn off DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53222.0)
- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.
- Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
- Enable uPnP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upnp) and Multi-cast Streaming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast) under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
- Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)

Running latest firmware.
Grand Junction, Colorado
Charter Internet/Cable
Motorola Surfboard SBV6220
30 down
5 up
IE for browser
Dns Relay off
Devices all reserved
UpNp on
All firewall settings off
StreamBoost On
My router is only about 30 feet away from my Pc and Xbox.
All has been set the same sense the router was first released.
I did however do all steps to installing latest firmware when it was released.
I set everything back the way i like it after that and it's worked great.
I use WiFi Analyzer on my android.
There are alot of N networks in my area.(witch may be my issue when using N)
I'm using G only on 2.4ghz channel 6 it's running fine.
If I place my phone on my xbox with wifi analyzer on i sit about -40dBm
I'm guessing it's just too many people on the N network in my apartment complex.
Other than that I love this router it works great for gaming witch is why i got it.
Plus D-link is the only brand i trust.

Please review:
Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0) and Good Neighbour Policy (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=10634.0)
Unfortunately there isn't any power settings available on the 5500.
I recommend that you close the distance between the 5500 and PC and game consoles. 30ft is a bit too far unless you are in a clear direct line of sight and no other WiFi routers near by.
If you can't close the distance, I recommend that you review some wired LAN options or attempt to maybe use a 5Ghz bridge to help connect the consoles on 5Ghz AC mode...
The DIR-865L works great on bridge mode with the 5500.
