With the handful of firmware updates that have been made for the Dir 655 the 1.31NA has impacted many in a nagitive way.
Maybe I have missed some post about the issue but it sure would be nice if I could have the choice to revert back to a firmware that worked for me.
Why lock the firmware update choice? Can the coding be undone to allow for this to happen?

You're right. Twice. 1) You missed some (significant) post and 2) it sure would be nice if you could have the choice to revert back.
But then, it still cannot be done. Search the forum, look for the first thread concerning the 1.31NA release. There's a kernel update from Ubicom (the router OS developer) that blocks a downgrade. It was discussed to exhaustion already, sorry, and the no-downgrade thing was loudly anounced.

True, a choice would be better. But sometimes certain updates just don't allow this, you got to go forward at some point.
1.31 working perfectly fine here, by the way.
