Title: UPNP/Xbox360 issues
Post by: tygerfyr on June 01, 2009, 06:00:00 PM
After some head scratching and forum searching (both the IP issue, the too many subfolders issue, and the special character issue) I've gotten streaming working....for the most part.

I do have some questions.

1.) What are the supported media types? I seem to be able to stream some files to the xbox via a PC and media player, that won't play via the Dlink. Most notably MPEGs which don't even appear, but I've noticed some AVI files won't play either.
2.) Are the above issues (including #1) being addressed in a firmware update and if so what is the release schedule. I'm weighing my options and will sit tight if one is expected shortly to correct these, but I don't want to sit on the drive for 6 months when I can return it now.
3.) Are there any 3rd party media sharing services that can run on the Dlink in lieu of its built in UPNP that you can suggest?

Here is a link to the FAQ regarding your question from the D-Link Support website.

You can also checkout the beta code available for this device which has many added features including more supported file types. This code can be found on the child board for this device labeled Beta code!

Thanks for the link. Strange that AVI is a supported file type yet they still won't play. Yet they will play on the 360 via my laptop. I mention in another post this could be codec related...thoughts?

I've been running the 1.03 beta firmware and issues I mentioned have been on that build.

Any guess at all on a new release? I realize you can't commit with a firm date, but I'm looking for any glimmer of hope here so I don't have to return this.

Thanks again.

What software are you running on your PC to stream the .avi file? It may be doing some transcoding of the file and that is why it plays using your laptop.
