Title: DNS server 192.168.1.251? (RESOLVED)
Post by: Goldenpaww on February 07, 2014, 11:59:49 AM
Greetings,

This problem is driving me CRAZY. I had a NetGear R7000 and was getting the DNS and Gateway as 192.168.1.251.

I returned that and got the D-Link and the gateway is correct, but the DNS is the same.

I have the current firmware and NIC driver. This happens over wired and wireless.

Is there some setting I am missing?

Thanks,

Where are you seeing the 192.168.1.251? On the PC?

Ensure your network adapter settings are set to auto obtain for IP and DNS address. Remove any static address options.

Do a ipconfig /flushdns on the PC from a command line or reboot the PC.

did that, did not work.

Looking in the registry, I found these settings, but changeing does nothing and they change back.

HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\servicesParameters
DhcpNameServer is 192.168.1.251
And
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{F1A12586-7F6E-4651-BB71-82F1A3FAE6E1}
DhcpDefaultGateway and DhcpNameServer is 192.168.1.251
and
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\servicesParameters
DhcpNameServer is 192.168.1.251

Something has that set on this PC and shouldn't, What OS platform is this PC?

Try this:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

If that fails, I would download the latest drivers for your PCs network card if you can get them. Disconnect the lan cable from the router. Remove the drivers from Windows or uninstall them. Then update to the new ones. Reboot and ask the PC is rebooting, connect the LAN cable.

This is not coming from the router.

FW Update Process (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42457.0)

Also try a different PC or device, does it have the same info?

ok, reset or nothing worked, but may have found an odd thing.

when I set my Wi-Fi to my old name the error starts. If I name it to say Test, it works fine.

The only wireless devices are my phone, tablet, laptop, WiiU, and security camera.

After playing, it seems the wireless bridge adapter for the security system is the cause.

Netgear WNC2001.

As soon as I plug it in, my dns goes to 192.168.1.251. I unplug it and release/renew and I'm back to 192.168.0.1

Glad you found the issue.

You'll need to refer to NG support information to ensure that you set that bridge up correctly if you continue to use it.

Enjoy.

I reset it and re set it up and it seems to be working correctly. it has an internal DHCP client and I think it was conflicting with the router.

Yes, some bridges or AP have an internal Server. Glad you got it working. Enjoy now.
