Title: cannot browse internet
Post by: nielsvg on February 09, 2014, 04:54:32 AM
hello

i bought a dir-850l yesterday and i have some problems.

i have my modem in the garage and connected to POE. in the living room also a POE and this is connected on the LAN of the 850L.

when i do a speedtest my connection goes to 50MB/sec but drops sometimes.

the biggest problem i have is browsing the internet. most of the time i cannot visit any site but at the same moment my speedtest says 50MB

also on my smartphone my connection cannot be kept because it's off bad quality. and i am one meter away from the dlink.

other settings: DHCP is off and i'm using 2.4ghz on channel 11 but all problems remain.

can someone help me please?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
6" minimum safe distance between devices.

Connection Type:DHCP Client
Cable Status:Disconnected

Is the ISP modem using the same 192.168.0.1 address by chance?
Try setting the 850L routers IP address to 192.168.1.254 and test...

I recommend that you contact the ISP for support to see if adding a external router is allow or compatible with this ISP modem. Seems like the ISP modem isn't handing out an IP address to the router. If the ISP modem isn't configurable, you might return the DIR router and get you a DAP model AP or you could try this with the 850L:
Bridge Mode vs Relay vs Acess Point (AP) / Routers vs Dedicated Acess Points (AP) (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50738.0)

Review the section about turning a router into an AP...
