Title: More speed on 868L
Post by: jangodoggy on February 10, 2014, 01:22:27 AM
Hi everybody. Just got this fine router and plugged it in with my netgear cg3000 modem. In cg3000
i have turned NAT off så it is now in brigdemode. Everything seems to work fine except for my
download speed on my iphone. Before i had over 30mb download and 14 upload  in speedtest with
OOKLA on iphone? How come my speed is suddenly much lower then it was with my old dir655? I'm
sure there must be some settings on 868l that can make my speed increase again?

Second question. Beamforming is that something that automaticly sets in when using the 868L ?

Woud a firmware update from my current version 1.04 to another solve the issue?

I have 3 iphones two macbooks, one ipad,a boxee box and my desktop computer set up with the
new 868L. The only device running ac wireless is my wifes macbook air so are there some settings
i should choose like mixed ac an n, or should i set the 5ghz band only on AC and 2.4ghz band on
N only?
Finally what channel should i pick for 2.4ghz and 5 ghz?

Kind regards
jangodoggy

6" minimum safe distance between devices.

Some WiFi speed results can be false negatives as there are many variables that can effect more accurate speeds results. It's only recommended to test wired LAN connections to ensure the base line is good there first.

If you wireless devices are supporting of the fastest connection mode, single N or AC, and you don't seem to have a need for the other modes, yes, you can disable the other modes if not being used.

SmartBeam is an internal function of the router. Nothing to configure.

Did you copy and past the [IMG] URL code thats included on each of those pictures? The link you posted is the main HTTP URL. The [IMG] URL is need to display pictures here in the forums...
Example: With out spaces between brackets and IMG
[ IMG ]http://imageshack.com/albums/folder/usernamefolder/samplepicfile.png[ /img ]

Mean while can you answer some of the questions and try the suggestions.

I recommend that you do change the SSID names of each radio to something different, can be fun and easy for you to identify your network on your devices and should be unique.

You can set AC mode only on the router or Mixed AC and N. The Mac should use AC if it's supporting.

There should be picture link information under each picture or an icon denoting URL links. All you have to do is to copy and paste that IMG URL link here in the forums and it will display the picture...

Let us know how the new WiFi settings work for you...

So back you your OP, I recommend that you rename the SSID to something more unique.

Use InSSIDer application to see hows around you and find a open and clear channel, 11, 6 or 1 is preferred.

Use modes only that are being used and supported by all of your devices. If you don't use A, B or G modes, then use single mode N only. WPA2/AES only is preferred security mode. Try Auto TPIK/AES if needed.

Good Luck.

The security i'm not sure about but are looking in to it
now!

Thank's again FurryNutz:)

NO, thats a N mode extender so it would only connect to the 2.4Ghz radio on the 868L.

Ok thought so:)

Well there was no disconnetion with the mac air yesterday
so maybe i have found some good settings?

But can't still figure out how to see the ac perfomance on
inssid program? Is there a newer version with ac so i can
see the graph too?

I won't do a firmware upgrade now when all seems to
just work ok:)

Do you think the settings are fine from the pictures?

You'll have to check back with the Mfr of the InSSIDer program for AC support. I was told that it's not supported as of yet.

Good Luck.

Hi well i have an ssid called Dlink but the last numbers i erased
before i uploaded the images:)

And maybe should try the security mode TKIP AES instead.

Doesn't matter that the inssid can't display ac graph yet:)

Thank's man you are so helpfull:)

For most things that I have, I use WPA2/AES only since all my current devices support it. I use Single mode N only on 2.4Ghz and Mixed all Modes on 5Ghz.

Play with some of the settings and see. Also placement of the router centrally on the main floor of any building is important. Better broadcast foot print.

Ya, the program needs updating by the Mfr...we are all waiting on that.  ;)

Enjoy.

Hi weird, the wifes mac keeps falling off every day now 2 or 3 times?

I'll try the  AES/TPIK an another channel!

But forgot to say we had the same problem with the mac air on
the old dir655 ??
