Title: Multicast Problem
Post by: SSPPYY on June 02, 2009, 07:01:39 AM
Hallo. I have DIR-855 and my ISP provide IPTV by multicast. I enable ENABLE MULTICAST STREAMS and disable PC firewall. Now i can watch video streamed on addresses starts with 225, but not on addresses starts with 239. Router say that address 239.1.1.1 (for example) is in IGMP Multicast memberships, but my PC dont receive any packet from this address. When I connect PC without router, everythink is OK.

Hardware Version: A2
Firmware Version: 1.12EU (older version = same problem)

Can anyone help me?

Can you provide the exact multicast addresses that did and did not work in your environment?

Any address from 239.1.1.1 to 239.255.255.255 does not work.
My ISP stream TV on 239.1.1.2 for example. I tried create own stream using VLC player and 2 PC, but it still does not work through router.

I cant try every address, but i think:
225.0.0.0 - 238.255.255.255 - WORK
239.0.0.0 - 239.255.255.255 - DONT WORK

What is problem?

But multicast addresses are from 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 and my ISP use (IGMP) 239.1.1.1, 239.1.1.2 etc.
So i cant watch IPTV. Is it router or firmware problem?

Some ISP here in Europe use VLAN + Multicast for IPTV (i.e. t-com in Germany)
The DIR- is not able to accept this VLAN x on WAN port.

Perhaps this is your problem...

I dont think that it is my problem, because i can watch TV chanels from same ISP, which are not streamed on addresses starts with 239 and i tried create own stream on adresses starts with 239 and it was same problem. Addresses starts with 225 for example work perfect.
1. I connect 1PC to the WAN port and 2PC to any LAN port
2. I create own video stream using VLC Player v0.86:
    - RTP Multicast
    - Address: 239.1.1.1
    - Port: 1234
3. I cant receive multicast on 239.1.1.1 on 2PC
4. Try again but:
    - RTP Multicast
    - Address: 225.1.1.1
    - Port: 1234
5. I can watch the video on 2PC

Thanks for being a helpful and polite member of this community.  Given 90+% of people don't have WAN multicast networks to test with, and only a small percentage are capable of the controlled tests you have performed, and not everyone has access to a particular 300$ router (with EU firmware I might add) this doesn't surprise me.

By the way, in case you couldn't tell posts like the above irk me, because it carried the implication that you have an expectation that if 200 odd random.people see your problem, at least one MUST have the knowledge to fix it, the time and effort to spend, and that they owe you that time and effort.  This is not a tech support contact, this is a community we are trying to establish so users can assist each other.  So far you actions fall clearly in the sycophant profile.

If you want Tech Support call the number on your box.

I dont believe that there is not one man who has this router, PC and notebook.
No, it is not about this, but about laziness.

that was my conclusion, though I think your apparent condemnation of it is misguided.

No one here owes you anything.

No one.

If they haven't rallied behind your issue, that is probably because the issue doesn't matter in their environment, or maybe they are just lazy, that is their right.

And I might add before you get the wrong idea, D-Link employees are here as overseers, not techs.

If you want Tech Support call the number on your box.

Except when we do call or send an e-mail to tech support, no one solves the problems there either. Nor calls back or e-mails back like they promise.

It's funny how one post that irritates you can generate a response, yet I'm sure you read these posts and skip most of them instead of adding value, until one does piss you off and you decide to post how it did so.

You get out what you put in. Just remember that.

If you call TS, they are going to either solve the issue, or discover a product problem with your assistance and report the issue to PM.  From there it would be out of their hands.

If you have TS cases where this was not the case PM me the case number and I will look into what happened in that case.

That sword cuts both ways.

Yeah. ::) The last time I PMed one of you guys on this list, it, too, went completely unanswered. So basically all avenues with D-Link lead to a dead-end. Tech support can't help, this forum can't help, and your corporate offices just take issues and make them disappear. I suppose it is finally time for a small-claims suit for my money back from this router. I will never use D-Link products again. I should have never started.

Most likely unrelated to your problem, but until 2 days ago I ran with auto-updated firmware and if I enabled multicast streams my router started rebooting every 3-6 mins interrupting internet..

Manually applying 112B19 firmware allowed me to turn multicast on without constant reboots.
ftp://ftp.dlink.se/Products/dir-products/dir-855/drivers_firmware/DIR855A2_FW112_B19.zip

If you're still experiencing the problem and if you havn't tried that firmware yet it could be worth a try, I guess.

Really wish D-Link would put some effort into customer support, I thought this forum was a great step in the right direction until I read this thread :P
Employees ripping into disgruntled customers doesn't seem very professional, but then again that's just my opinion.
