Hi,
I'm trying to connect a WD My Passport 2TB external hard drive to my DIR-657 and I can't make it work. Shareport Plus sees the drive, and it can even show the free space and the total space, but when I try to map it as a network drive it says "Assigning a drive letter to [...], please wait", and after a few seconds it goes away, without any error message or warning. Needless to say, the hard drive is still unreadable from my laptop (Win7 64bit). I can open the drive from Shareport plus, but then it says: "Windows cannot access \\192.168.0.1\usb(A1)"
I tried mapping the drive manually using several names, such as usb(A1), usb(A0), usb(B1), usb(B0), etc. It always results in the same error.
Is there any way to make it work? It's getting frustrating and I would appreciate any advice you guys can give me.
Firware version: 1.01
Hardware version: A1
Windows: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit
HD: Western Digital 2TB MyPassport

Try this?

FYI, max official supported USB drive sized on D-Link routers is 500Gb...

Thank you for the link. I saw it before posting, and I tried different names and different methods in the post, but I couldn't get it to work.
And I didn't know that maximum supported is 500GB. I guess I'll have to find another way to share my media library anyways. Thanks though.

After the above reply, I went in to try it one last time and voila! It worked. I don't know what changed since yesterday, maybe a reboot or something. But now it's working perfect.

Awesome,
One other suggestion on using USB drives on routers, if it doesn't work at some point, install a USB to LAN network adapter between the USB drive and network connection. Then you should be able to connect using an IP address from any PC.
Enjoy. ;)
