Title: Time Server Problem?
Post by: thecreator on February 16, 2014, 08:12:15 AM
Hi All,

Is anyone aware of the ntp1.dlink.com time server being down? Or the other one, as I have tried both and the process failed to contact the server.

Still do not work. Funny it's gone unnoticed for this long.

Can you set a different NTP server on the DNS?
How are you detecting it's not working?  ???

hI nullit,

I am using Firmware 1.10 and the time appears to be working. However, once the Time Server is contacted and the time is updated, Enable NTP Server, does not remain checked. I turn off the Unit at night and turn it on in the mornings.

I am using the Server at ntp.dlink.com.tw .

Does the NTP server remain if you leave the DNS on over night?

Hi FurryNutz,

The Time remains accurate, as I don't need to log in and check the time, except when Daylight Time and Standard Time changes.

Before posting the other post, I did indeed log in and check and the time was correct.

It just doesn't remain checked.

Oh so the check mark doesn't remain displayed in the box?

Hi FurryNutz,

That's correct. Unless that is considered to be a Bug in the 1.10 Firmware Version?

What browser are you using? Happen in different browsers?  ???

Hi FurryNutz,

Loaded it in Internet Explorer 11.0, Firefox 39.0.3 and Waterfox 39.0, all show Enable NTP Server, as unchecked. If I were using the Time from the computer, the DNS-323 time would not be accurate, since I turn off the unit in the early morning hours. And turn it back on in the late morning hours.

I wonder if this is a issue with newer versions of browsers maybe. We've seen some issues with newer browsers not working well or showing different behavior with older products.

Does the 323 have a Idle or sleep function for HDDs? I have the 345 and use the sleep function for the drives when not being used so I leave my DNS ON all the time and connected to a battery back up system. I presume that if your turning off and back on the unit, that the check mark is not persisting during the power cycle. Which would be a bug and presume might not get fixed.  :-\

Hi FurryNutz,

If I place a Check to use the Enable NTP Server and click Save Settings. Upon saving the settings, the check disappears from Enable NTP Server: But the time is correct. Or the time is correct. And the check is missing.

Could be a behavior with the check after you hit Save. Logically I presume it should persist.  :-\

Hi FurryNutz,

Any chance, you can find out what is normal or not? The time is correct.

Hey, - found out that my ISP is blocking calls to many timeservers but is providing their own timeserver address. Fixed the problem for me.

Cheers,

So you pointed your DNS to your ISPs Time server address?  ???

That that tells us the time feature is working on the 323.

Thank you. Enjoy.
