Post by: PEye2000 on February 16, 2014, 05:29:37 PM
I have the ShareCenter setup and running within my Home network, and will work for remote accessing,

I am tring to SAVE... run a Windows 8.1 Image to the NAS, DNS-320, I was hoping someone could help with the PC setting so the image would show the NAS... and save it there, I can use a external HDD with no problems, Is this something I will need 3rd party software for,,, any help, Thanks, John

Just use whatever cloning software and save the cloned image to NAS via mapped drive. I would advice saving it to another partition on the PC or external drive first before transferring it to the NAS.

When you make the image don't forget to also image the hidden boot partition.

If you are trying to get a complete disk image to allow you to restore everything should something go wrong with your installation then that image should be made using a bootable CD because it is impossible to actually copy some open system files.

If, on the other hand, you are only trying to backup the My Documents folder then a simple XCOPY c:\my documents\* <NASdrv\dir> /h/o/t/s/e/r/v should do the job.

Trying to save installed programs as well will require you to make a disk image otherwise you will not get all the files spread through the windows directory or the necessary registry settings.
