Title: firmware 1.05 no good
Post by: IgorW on February 18, 2014, 04:42:47 AM
The router shows that there is a firmware version update to v1.05 but this is not displayed on the web site. After updating to 1.05 my phone will no longer connect to the wireless network.
To fix download version 1.04B from the DLink web site and upload it to the router.

DLink development/release team should really check to ensure that 1. posted firmware versions work and 2. the router and the web site should show the same available firmware version.

I'm posting on here because there is more of a chance they will fix it than if I send them a support ticket (my last one got no response).

Problem #1:
1. Web site and Router config display different versions of the firmware available. Website is 1.04 and router displays 1.05.

Problem #2:
Firmware 1.05 breaks wireless network. Without changing any of my wireless settings I updated the firmware to 1.05 (downloaded using the Router configuration) after which my wireless devices are no longer able to connect. Without changing any of my wireless settings I updated the firmware to 1.04 obtained from the web site after which devices are able to connect again.
During any troubleshooting session (regardless of what you are trying to fix) the first question you ask your self is 'what has changed from when it worked to when it stopped working'. In this case only the firmware version changed.

My conclusion is that 1.05 is not ready for release but accidentally got leaked through the router configuration which is probably why it is not listed/available on the web site. This should be easy to verify. If I am wrong then 1) please update the web site with the new version and include release notes and 2) be prepared for additional complaints from users that experience the problem I described above.

Although I do appreciate the response (although this looks like a canned/stock response) I do not have time to go through and answer everyone of the questions in your response. The burden of testing should be on the QA team / Dev team to ensure that a firmware upgrade version is backwards compatible, not the consumer.

Thank you.

What region are you located?

The more information you an give us here the better we can get an idea of your situation and give better feedback and suggestions to help you resolve the problem quicker.

I do use "canned" responses and most problems seen in the forums relate to what I post and some, if not all, of the information posted helps to resolve problems.

We are volunteer help for DLink and here to help out with set up and problems that are posted by users here in the forums. If we can not resolve those issues here or if there are problems with anything beyond our capabilities here in the forums, we ask the users please contact phone D-Link directly for continued help and information. Problems with HW/FW and documentation fall under this reasoning as we do not have the ability to effect any changes. As for D-Link support, if they don't know what customers needs as desires are then it's kind of hard for them to make improvements to there products with out someone helping them out and telling them.  Yes, of course please feel free to post and talk about it here, however there is little or no review by any official D-Link support or engineering personnel here in the forums. It's the users responsibility to help notify directly D-Link support of un-resolved problems and concerns they have, that we can't fix here in the forums.

There was no 1.05 listed on the dlink.ca site for a long time. It is posted there along with the release notes, which say the changes are "Adopt the latest Russia radio frequency allowance. Correcting Taiwan radio frequency". So I would expect if you were in Taiwan or Russia that it would affect something to do with wireless channel selections.

Which the EU v1.07 would have incorporated I presume...
