Title: Viewing Camera in VLC
Post by: ReverendTed on February 19, 2014, 08:12:16 PM: Someone on Amazon asked if it was possible to show the camera feed from a DCS-932L in a small always-on-top window on his computer screen.
The most straightforward means of achieving this I found was to use the free, open-source media player "VLC". http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

In VLC, go to Media - Open Network Steam
For the Network URL, enter http://IPaddress:portnumber/video/mjpg.cgi (Where IPaddress and portnumber are the IP Address and port number for your camera.)
You will be prompted for your username and password, then the feed will start.
From there, you can set VLC to "Always On Top" in the Video menu, and "Minimal Interface" in the View menu.

You can also add your username and password to the URL like so: http://username:password@IPaddress:portnumber/video/mjpg.cgi

Audio is accessible on a separate stream: http://IPaddress:portnumber/audio.cgi
In my version of VLC, the video plays continuously, but the audio stream plays about 30 seconds at a time.
There is a feature in VLC to play two pieces of media concurrently, but while it presents two logins when you add the audio stream as the secondary, it still only plays whichever you have designated as the primary stream.

This is also an issue with a number of the third-party solutions posted here: D-Link Network Cameras - Third Party Applications to Monitor Video (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42675.0)

Again, feel free to contribute to that list (with VLC) as a reply on that thread or comment on others already listed... ;)

I actually hesitated to do so knowing that the audio wasn't combined with the video, but since that seems to be an issue with other alternatives, I'll take your suggestion and post it. Thanks!
