Title: DIR-655 HTTP Dropping
Post by: MikeP on February 20, 2014, 08:02:16 AM
I have been running into a very strange problem that I cant seem to figure out and I was hoping I could get some help here.

My current setup is Comcast Modem -> DIR-655 (Wireless Disabled) -> DAP-1522 (Wired to 655).  I have one desktop wired into the 655 and then a few wireless devices (iPhones, iPad, XBOXs).  When my wife turns on her HP laptop and connects to the wireless all HTTP to the internet drops.  My VPN connection on my work laptop stays up but nothing trying to get out via HTTP works.  I have to reboot everything (sometimes more then once) and it will come back up.  I still have access to both devices via HTTP including a local HP printer, just cant get out to the internet.

I have tried to reserve her laptop and other devices an IP and that has not helped.  I also confirmed that I have the latest code on both devices (the 655 is a rev b).

Any ideas?

Mike

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
6" minimum safe distance between devices.

What Firmware version is currently loaded? DIR-655 is at 2.11NA DAP-1522 is at 1.41
What region are you located?  US
Has a Factory Reset been performed?  No I did not try this
Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?  No it was just upgraded and loaded the saved config.  This is something I can try.

FW Update Process

Was the router working before any firmware updates?  I think so, but she just got this new laptop so I cant really say it was a firmware update that caused it.  It was upgraded a few months ago.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?  Cable
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?  Motorola, not sure of the model
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?  Comcast
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values

Maybe I should try to reset to factory and re-set everything up.

Give the reset a try and also see if you can find out the model of the ISP Modem...
