Title: Help! Why Can't I Forward Ports On Dlink Dir-855?
Post by: bigfrank on February 22, 2014, 01:20:49 AM
Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help here. I'm basically trying to open port 5000 on my router so that i can remotely access my Synology DS214play Nas.  Here is a screenshot of how I've opened port 5000 yet when I check this port it's showing as closed and I can't access the NAS.

My setup is:
Dlink DIR-855
Firmware Version :1.21EU,  2010/01/15
Modem: DSL-2680
(not sure how to access the modem or check the firmware)

If anyone can offer any advice as to what I may have missed that's preventing me accessing this remotely I'd be hugely grateful.

Many Thanks

Franco

My suspicion is that you'll need to forward the ports to the router from your modem.
That is to say, a request comes in on port 5000, the modem forwards it to your router, then your router forwards it to you Synology NAS.
The default web configuration IP for your modem is 192.168.1.1.  Otherwise, look in your router settings to see what the "Gateway" address is.  That should be the IP for your modem.
