Have you mapped drive to the USB drive and connected that way?
How to map a USB Drive to your PC without using Shareport software (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=46133.0)

tried mapping the drive (Z) but no luck , i still can't remove folders on it , still says
i need to be granted access by unix / user/ root, though files i can remove without a problem
but when i make a new folder i can't remove i when the drive is connected to the router

Can you try mapping to the drive using Different Credentials? Log in as Admin and the PW you use to log into the routers main web page...
