Title: General Questions
Post by: pricey091 on March 01, 2014, 06:35:28 AM
Guys,

General questions following the purchase of my D Lick 320!

If you could answer one or all it would be much appreciated!

I bought a DDNS service, didn't cost much but I later found that I can access my DLINK by typing in the IP address from Chrome...have I wasted $30 on a service that is provided by DLINK?

Following on from the last, am I able to upload/download via the Chrome interface?

Finally, is there any media program from DLINK that allows me to play my video files when I am away from my network e.g. at a mates house with my laptop plugged into the TV? Or even from a smart TV...?

I assume your reference to being able to access the DNS-320 via chrome is while you are on your local network - this is normal.

If you want to access your NAS from outside the local network (i.e. a mates house), then you need the DDNS service and you will also need to setup your router/modem correctly by opening the correct ports in the firewall  and redirecting access as necessary.

The program to play the video files has to be on your laptop.  All the NAS does is pass the file to the laptop.  Sorry I can't be more specific than that but we only use our NAS units for backups or client data storage.
