i need help in setting up my new router.
im having a problem with my smartdns (trickbyte.com), i enter the dns servers that are supplied by trickbyte into the internet setting in the router. it seems to make no difference like that the router is not using the dns servers as it lets me go to sites like bbc iplayer & watch.
also i want to set the router up with the best settings possible to get the maximum speed. I have already updated the firmware and have set the wireless settings to 2.5ghz using 802.11n only & 5ghz 802.11ac only

Did you disable DNS Relay on the router and reboot the router then all devices?
-
genius! thankyou ;D
what does dns relay do? why was it enabled in the first place?
-
DNS Relay (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=45143.0)
In most cases DNS relay works just fine and is a security related feature so that the router handles the DNS addressing instead of ISP handling. D-Link just wants the router to do most of the management.
Enjoy. ;)

i have set the 2.5ghz 802.11 mode to use g & n on channel 11. and the 5ghz to use all 3 modes auto channel select. is that the right thing to do?
-
Sure is... ;)

i now have a problem with trying to setup a mylink account. it tells me 'Your account e-mail has not been verified!' I click 'Resend verification e-mail.' but no email comes through. i have waited a few hours for the email

Did you look in your Junk mail folder? ???
-
got it!
is there any benefit of changing the wan port speed from auto to 100Mbps
-
I prefer to manually set WAN port speed. If you now what speed your ISP modem supports then you can manually set it to train to the speed of your ISP modem.
-
so my broadband speed is 100/100
im guessing i set the wan port speed to 100
-
No...what is the WAN port speed of the ISP modem? 10, 100 or 1000Mb?
You can easily connect your wired PC to the modem or wall out let and look at the network connect speed for the adapter in windows...will give you the connection speed there.
-
sorry i don't understand
do you mean to connect directly to the media box that comes into my apartment
-
Yes...if you don't have a actual ISP Modem, then what ever you use to connect the routers WAN port to is what you would do with your PC.
-
so i connect to the media box and run a speedtest?
-
No, just check the connection speed on the network adapter that the cable is plugged into...
