Title: Router stops functioning when connected to modem
Post by: akattom on March 23, 2014, 08:59:58 AM
Hello all. I recently bought a DIR-600 D-link router. I was able to configure everything just fine with my samsung s4 browser as I dont have a functioning laptop or pc at the moment. I was able to browse around until I decided to turn both modem and routers off to go take a nap. I woke up after a few hours and decided that I need the internet connection so I turned both back on. The problem is I am now unable to connect to the internet, even to open 192.168.0.1 to see if i can fix certain configurations, my browser wont open the page.

I tried hard resetting by pressing the button behind the router, still dont work. I also tried resetting both modem and router several times, waiting for 30 seconds, even a full 10 minutes before turning them back on, still nothing. I did notice however that my s4 can detect the router and even connect to it. Also I am able to access 192.186.0.1 only if the modem is not connected to the router. I tried connecting the modem to a borrowed laptop to check if it was my isp who was the problem, but the internet was fine. I was able to browse around and download at regupar speed.

It seem that the problem here is my router cannot connect to the internet even though my s4 can connect and detect it via wifi. Please help. I need to know of there is something I can do to fix this or should I just return/replace the router.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
6" minimum safe distance between devices.

Thanks for the reply FurryNutz. I have made the adjustments you suggested above. Unfortunately none of them work. I did however fix the problem from random googling. It seem my device(samsung s4) had the same ip adress as the router (I wonder how that happened) and changing my router's ip adress (from default 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.2.1) allowed my device to connect and access the internet. The problem however is that the speed is very slow. I guess it should suffice for now as I really dont need to stream heavy videos or whatever. Any tips would really be helpful. For the topic at hand, it can be considered resolved.
