Title: Router not calculating dsl overhead
Post by: segacorpceo on March 23, 2014, 04:33:22 PM
So, I have verizon dsl 3mbps 768kbps up. I am using a linksys x2000 in bridge mode to the dgl 5500. When I put 3mbps on streamboost, I only receive about 2.7 down. I normally get 3mbps. Verizon oversyncs their dsl at 3360 down and 864 up because of  overhead.

When I put 3.360mbps I get my full 3megs, but then Streamboost is basically broken and wont prioritize anything and in game ping goes through the roof.<--(but this could also be a symptom of bufferbloat) I have used Tomato and OpenWrt which have a patch for dsl overhead. Is it possible that they can implement this to the firmware?

If your DGL-5500 is connected to a bridge to the ISP modem, then there could be some performance loss there as well.

It's only recommended to connect any router wired directly to a ISP modem with out any bridges in between.

I am on the latest 1.11. I think bridge mode is supposed to help, so the router does the ppoe connection and to remove a double nat.

Ok, I looked up the specs on this Linksys, Yes, bridge mode is preferred.

You should be getting good speeds with between the modem and 5500 with SB and ABE enabled.

What are the SB test results vs doing a speedtest.net test?
