Title: DIR-605L access point problem
Post by: passegua on April 01, 2014, 02:23:07 PM
I set up easily my new DIR-605L, but as soon as I changed from router to access point in set up page then I am not able to open 192.168.0.1 page anymore  :(

why?

I can use the router and I connect 5 devices such as 192.168.1.129 to 192.168.1.133
but I'd like to enter DIR-605L admin page.

I already tried to reset to factory default and restart wizard again, but if I change the selection to access point the problem is still there: cannot enter admin at 192.168.0.1 even with mydlink I am told that DIR-605L is not connected!

I tried also connecting directly by LAN from pc to DIR-605L.

Please help me.

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Be sure to access the AP web page using the new IP address that you need to assign...

H/W: B1
F/W: 2.0
Region: Italy
I cannot check status because I cannot open web page.

How could I find the right IP? I thought it was 192.168.0.1 but it doesn't work.
Thanks.

Be sure to access the AP web page using the new IP address that you need to assign...

I read all the useful page, but I do not understand why: "7. Connect an Ethernet cable in one of the LAN ports of the AP router and connect it to your host router. Do not plug anything into the Internet (WAN) port of the router that your turning into an AP. Use the LAN ports only."
how could my DIR-605L get the internet through a LAN port?

Thanks.

I've done all is written in the "Turning a router into an AP" but it doesn't help.

As soon as I check the "wireless mode" into "access point" under "wireless network settings"
I loose my connection to 192.168.0.1 neither 192.168.1.254 or what ever and I cannot enter any more into set up page.

Thanks.

When you select access point mode does it tell you to reboot the router and to use a different IP address after it reboots? Try 192.168.0.50.

Does this help any?

I tried 192.168.0.50  192.168.0.1 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.254
none works.

The link you gave didn't help.

So how could I enter dlink setup?

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Just found that I'm not the only having this problem.
Please have a look at http://goo.gl/TVzy5O (http://goo.gl/TVzy5O)
at the very end of the thread you'll read that: " I could never get back into the config screen."
when ever you choose Access point !

Thanks.

When setting your router up as an access point, you need to know what IP address the Primary Router will be assigning to the Access Point.  That'll be the IP address you'll use to log in once the changeover is completed.

The Access Point router needs to have a cable plugged from one of the Primary Router's LAN ports to one of the Access Point's LAN ports.  (You do not use the Access Point's WAN port at all.)

Then you can log in to your Primary Router and see what IP address has been assigned to the Access Point.
(It is usually best to have this IP address be "Reserved" for the Access Point in the Primary Router settings to make sure it stays the same even if the devices get disconnected.)

Many thanks for your reply.
I plugged the primary router to DLINK LAN port#1 and it works fine as access point.
However I cannot discover which IP has been assigned to Dlink in order to enter setup.
If I scan all the IP I see only my devices: 2 pc, 2 smartphones, 1 printer, 1 google chromecast and that's all folk.
btw I used also http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com for searching all IP connected...

The best way to see what IP address has been assigned to the DIR-605L is to actually log in to the Primary Router and view its status page.  Have you tried that?

No i didn't since my primary router is a HAG (home access gateway) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residential_gateway and I don't know how log in it.
Thanks.

What I'd do in that case is look into the connection details for one of the devices connected to the Gateway and look for the IP address of the "Gateway".  Once you've got that, attempt to go to that IP address and see about logging in.  In many cases, if you haven't logged into it before, the login information will still be set to their defaults (or there may be a sticker on the device itself with login information).

Jungo OpenRG Internet Gateway Device is the name of the primary router, http://192.168.1.254:8080/ is its web address, but I cannot log in it  :(

Jungo OpenRG is a software platform installed on the device, similar to how some appliances run on Java software.

At this point, your ISP would probably be the one to ask about how to log in to the gateway.
