Title: Internet connection gone when turning on other devices
Post by: jacmarpet on April 03, 2014, 10:44:59 AM
Hello,

So I have the following devices connected to the router:

2 PCs - wired
1 PC - wifi
2 phones - wifi

Throughout the day, the internet connection dissapears. Taking the internet cable out of the wall and plugging it back in, solves the problem immidiately and we are back on.

Whenever we turn on a new device, the internet connection for all devices dissapears. Also at random times, the connection is lost, but the fewer devices that are on, the fewer disconnects, and every time a PC is turned on, it is 80% sure the internet connection will be gone, for all devices.

My setup:

What region are you located? Denmark - Europe
Has a Factory Reset been performed? Yes
Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch? Yes
FW Update Process - Version 1.04

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? Fiber
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have? No idea.
Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing? Static, I think. Have had the same one for a very long time. If looking at my external IP address is sufficient.
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? 50mbit/50mbit

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
What wireless modes are you using? 802.11 Mode:Mixed 802.11n, 802.11g and 802.11b
2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode N or mixed G and N?

MAC Address   IP Address   Mode   Rate (Mbps)   Signal (%)
5C:3C:27:24:32:D7   192.168.0.104   11n   72.2   86
20:68:9D:0E:34:E6   192.168.0.102   11n   65   76
EC:1A:59:84:39:A5                      11g   54   100
00:26:82:85:62:00   192.168.0.100   11n   52   64

Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz.
Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected? 1 PC and 2 phones, an iPhone and an Android.
Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by? We don't have any APs ourselves, only the router. We live in an appartment so other routers are nearby.
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Around 6-7.
If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Any idea what might cause this?

Thanks in advance,

Jacob.

RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.
