Title: DIR-835 and ATT Microcell connectivity problem

Hey everyone.  Newbie to this forum here.  I have the DIR-835 router that up until a week ago was working fine with my ATT Microcell.  We had a power failure and my son thought he would fix everything by pressing the reset button on the router, but all he needed to do was power cycle everything.  Nonetheless, when he reset it, I lost the initial setup for the microcell and can't remember how to get the MC through the firewall.  I know we did something before but it was handled mostly by tech support, I just liked and entered what they said.  I took the opportunity to update my firmware to 1.0.3, but can't get the MC to connect.  ATT has aid it is totally on the DL end.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I saw several pages that talk about tcp and udp ranges, but cant figure where to put that info into the system.  I also can't find an IP address for te MC to put in the DMZ zone.  I am just stuck.  Any helo is greatly appreciated.

My system is Motorola surfboard cable modem to the DIR 835 and the MC is connected to one of the numbered slots on the back.  Again, it worked beautifully before, just need some direction.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Glad to see that I'm not the only one with a ATT Microcell and this router...

Lets try putting the IP address that the microcell gets into the DMZ for one, and also disable TruGigabit Routing under Setup/Internet/Manual.

I wish you still had the configuration of how it was set up before the reset. Let me know if this fails and I'll provide you with some other stuff to try...

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

I am having trouble connecting my ATT MCT to my DIR-835. I have gone through all the steps except for turning off WISH and WPS since I can't find that - but I'll keep looking.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

After bridging the ISP modem, try the following:
li]Turn off TrueGigaBit Routing (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=60699.0) under Setup/Internet/Manual for those routers that have this feature for testing.[/li]

[li]Setup DHCP (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58017.0) reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives. I used 192.168.0.150 for my microcell.[/li]
[li]Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.[/li][/list]

Input the reserved IP address in to the 835s DMZ. Save settings and reboot. No port forwarding is needed. You should be good to go...

I'm using the cable provided with the MCT but will swap it with one I know works.
The modem has DHCP Server set for Private LAN providing addresses 192.168.1.15-47. The router has a static DNS assignment. Can I turn off the modem DHCP?
I'm working on your other suggestions.

I recommend contacting your ISP and checking to see if the modem can be bridged. If not, then place the 835 WAN IP address it gets from the ISP modem into the ISP modems DMZ.

There is no 192.168.0.# in the router's WAN IP address field. It looks like the ipaddress provided by Centurylink.

So your getting a ##.##.###.### address on the 835?

Here is some info on bridging Westell modems, to confirm with yours:

If the modem is bridged then should be all thats needed is to reserve the 192.168.0.150 address for the microcell and place this address into the 835s DMZ. Save and reboot the router and microcell.

What Firmware version is currently loaded on the router? Found on the routers web page under status.

The firmware is 1.04 , 20, Jun, 2013.

I changed the modem to bridge but could not access the internet so I changed it back. I'll keep working on it.

The WAN on the 835 is now 192.168.1.47. I know that is an internal one. I'm pretty sure it was an external ip before.

If you bridge the modem, and if your ISP services use PPPoE as there connection with the ISP modem, you may need the PPPoE DSL user name and account PW to input that into the DIR-835/Setup/Internet/ConnectionType/PPPoE section. Once thats done after the modem is bridged, then save settings on the 835. Power OFF the 835 and ISP modem. Power ON the ISP modem and let it sync, then power ON the 835. Reboot the PC as well. Then you should have Internet. Check with your ISP services on what they use. If the modem can be bridged and the ISP uses DHCP, then the user name and account may not be needed on the 835, just set the connection type to DHCP.

I bridged the modem and turned off DHCP in both places for it. Tried the router with DHCP and PPPoE. Restarted both and computers after each setting. Can't access internet or modem. Plugged modem directly into computer with wifi turned off and still can't access it. The modem had been 192.168.1.1. Thoughts?

When the modem is bridge, you wont' have access to the modems UI anymore which is expected. When you bridged the modem, did you look at the 835s Status page to see if it was picking up the WAN IP addressing?

You might phone contact your ISP to see if they can help you correctly bridge the modem.

192.168.1.# is ok if the modem isn't bridged since the 835 uses .0.1.

If you can't get the modem bridged fully and set up on the 835, factory reset the modem and use it as a modem/router...set it up and leave the DHCP server going on it. Connect the 835 to the ISP modem and look to see what IP address it gets from the ISP modem under Status/Device Info. Reserve this IP address on the modem and place this address into the ISPs DMZ.

Was the microcell finally placed in the 835s DMZ and working well now?
I presume you got the ISP Modem bridged correctly?
