Title: My Admin password gets corrupted...
Post by: Bigs on April 22, 2014, 05:43:26 AM
Hey everyone!

Just bought this router to replace an old one I had and everything works like a charm except after 1 day, the Admin password doesn't work anymore.  So basically cannot login to manage my router.  But the whole network is fine.

I have reset my router 4 times (4th time last night), updated the FW last week to the latest.  Same password used from my old router and I also use a password keeper so I know what it is!  It WAS 11 characters long alpha numeric.  I have made it with less characters to see.  I tried this morning and I was able to login.  I will see if I can tonight when I get back from work.

I chatted with D-Link Support yesterday and they have no clue what could cause this.  Anyone ever see this?  I tried different combos of PWs without success.  I'm about to return it and get another one.  Probably a defect.

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:

Uncheck these:

Thanks for your reply!

I'm in Canada...  Sorry, should have put more info.

-Firmware to the latest 1.08 I believe (whatever version is on the site anyway)
-Sorry can't get hardware version, not at home right how.
-Browsers: IE 11, Chrome and Firefox (they all do it on 3 different PC's) even when disabling what you       suggested for browsers and 3rd party
-Admin is grayed out by default, therefore have no other username I can enter

After resetting my router, I can login 20 times without issues...  If I wait 24+ hours, then it's toast and can't login. (bad username or password)

When I get home tonight I'll test and see as I did a few things last night and it was still OK this morning.  I can get you the hardware version also.

The PW might be blank.

I recommend doing the following, factory reset, load v1.08 again using IE or FF. Factory reset once more after sending FW file, then set up from scratch.

FW Update Process (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42457.0)

Let us know how it goes...

Also, until you can confirm correct operation between router and web browser, I'd disable any PW managers until this issue has passed.  ;)

It's a local non mem resident PW manager!  Just to be clear!  I don't use auto fills on those either!  :)  ...and only have it on 1 PC of the 3 I have!  The PC I use to config the router doesn't have it!  It's a plain old jane PC with basically nothing on it!

Man o man...  It's the longest streak I have had without resetting my router!  Knock on wood it's fine now.  If it happens again Furry I will try what you suggested but I want to see how long it will stick.  Weird.

Thanks again!
