Title: pingtest.net 2% packet loss. (RESOLVED)
Post by: orphenshadow on April 23, 2014, 02:52:28 PM
I've been getting packet loss on the pingtest.net diagnostic page.

I don't get the packet loss when directly hooked to my modem.

I am running the latest firmware.

does anyone else experience this issue?

I'm guessing its the streamboost doing something to the first few packets.

Thats a 100Mb WAN connection ISP modem and is becoming out of date. I recommend that you get into a Motorola SB 6 series modem that replaces the 5 series and is Gb connection supporting.

I've considered it, but right now we only a 30Mbps/5Mbps connection so the extra bandwidth would likely go to waste. I'm going to up my connection speed to 100/20 soon and will probably buy docsis 3.0 modem to go with that.

There is no packet loss when connected directly to the modem from my pc, only across the router.

The current ISP modem you have is about at the upper limits of speed support. I can only presume that this could also be impacting something between the modem and router. Others haven't seen this I believe.

I recommend getting to something with bigger pipe. The bandwith would not be a waste if you bought a modem that supported higher ISP speeds and WAN port connection speeds of 1000Mb.

I use a SB 6180 on a 50/2 ISP and have no issues with my 5500.

I figure the cable company will more than likely have to give me a faster modem when I upgrade my package next month.

Hopefully that fixes that issue.

Oh thats a given since your current model modem wont do much beyond 30Mb.

I'd get your own to avoid rental fees if your ISP supports BYOM.

Good Luck.

I think it was my modem. It died completely a few weeks back. I went ahead and bought a new one and upgraded my internet package to 50/20 and now it seems to be working great.
