Title: Dir-651 traffic separation/firewalls
Post by: PWE on April 25, 2014, 12:01:51 PM
Hello,

Just wanted to ask if d-link dir-651 has some sort of integrated traffic (wired vs wireless) separation engine?

As I own Android smartphone and I sometimes want to transfer files from my PC, that is wired to the router, to my smartphone which of course connect to router wirelesly, and my router simply refuses to Access AidDroid server user interface (which is served by server deployed on my smartphone). Sadly I even cannot ping my Smartphone from my PC.
Meanwhile, if I connect to my router from PC wirelesly, then AirDroid interface is reached without any hustle. Plus I can ping or traceroute succesfuly.
Also I've tried the same stuff at work using other wi-fi router, when PC was connected using wire and it also worked without a glitch.

Thanks for your reaponse in advance :-)

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48327.0) and Managing Signal Congestion (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53228.0) and Good Neighbour Policy (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=10634.0)

I'd also check with the phones Mfr support site for help and information on ensuring that the phone supports connections and is set up and configured correctly.

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.

H/W Ver.: A2
F/W. Ver.: 1.0.0

  • Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.

--------------------------------------------------

Model:DIR-651
Firmware version:1.0.0
Build time:Fri Jun 8 17:29:47 MSK 2012
Vendor:D-Link Russia
Support:support@dlink.ru
Summary: Root filesystem image for DIR-651

--------------------------------------------------

Update:

Managed to solve this issue on my own. For those who have a similar problem, I will walk-through a process, that solved my issue:

Apparently firmware update that can be downloaded from here:

http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-651

was no good for me, because when I tried to apply it to router, it would check it and alert me of something like "wrong firmware version"  . Then after hours of trying to find the magic combination of router settings that would solve my issue I gave it a shot and visited:

http://www.dlink.ru/

and then navigated to Dir-651 support page:

http://www.dlink.ru/ru/products/5/1706_d.html

where I've download this file:

http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-651/Firmware/beta/20130930_1644_DIR_651A_2.0.17_sdk-master.bin

that when applied as an update, updated my router Firmware to 2.0.17 (see info below)

--------------------------------------------------

Model:DIR-651
Firmware version:2.0.17

and rebooted.

Summary after reboot:
- I can successfully ping/traceroute from my PC (wired) to Smartphone (wireless).
  * No more problems with reaching AirDroid server on my Sony Xperia Z1 Android smarphone.
- With a little bit of browsing on the web and fiddling/configuring on the OS (I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) side I've managed to make XBMC (open source Media Center application) remote control App for Android to work. I've only had to do, what someone recommended in the following link http://askubuntu.com/a/293375 in other words open up ports on the OS side.

Thanks for the heads-up :)

p.s. One thing I've still haven't managed to do is to configure router in someway, that would allow me to connect and use services (i.e. FTP) on my home PC/Server from an outside network connection (i.e. from work) and I have a feeling, that I can do this using "Virtual servers" section in router section, but this is totally different story.[/list]

Thats why we ask users where they are located at so we can direct them to correct locations for FW.
Glad you got it working.
Enjoy.  ;)
