Title: Syslog Setup Issue
Post by: Gazoo432 on April 28, 2014, 08:21:43 PM
I am running a Kiwi Syslog server on my network and whenever I attempt to set the IP address for logging in the web interface it responds with "SYSLOG host is not a valid host ID".

Hardware Version : A1
Firmware : 1.04

Am I just missing something here?

FW Update Process (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42457.0)

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

Be sure your pointing to the correct device IP address that has the server loaded. Try a different syslog server application like SyslogWatch as a test.

3rd Party Security Software Configurations

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using to manage the router?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Ok Nutz here ya go...

Region: US
Wired and Wireless
No Factory Reset after my last Firmware Update.

Tried using both IE and Chrome to configure the router, same message in both.

I am curious; a factory reset will just clear the settings but leave the currently loaded firmware, correct? I am having another strange error that I have not posted about yet dealing with MAC filtering being broken since my 1.04 upgrade but I have a less secure workaround in place for now and will post that later if needed.

We recommend following the FW update process link for updating any router. Helps to ensure FW is loaded on the router correctly with out issues. I recommend doing a FW reset once more and test default settings. Give SysLogWatcher a try as a secondary point. Be sure to reserve the IP address of the PC where the syslog app is loaded.
