Title: Replaced my Trendnet with DCS-5010L, initial observations.
Post by: Glenstr on May 20, 2014, 07:26:34 AM
My 5 or so year old Trendnet pan tilt ip cam stopped working, so I thought I'd try the D-link when I saw it on sale at Costco cheap. Here are my observations so far:

Pros

Cons

With the Trendnet I could do all three items in the "Cons" list, and found them very handy, in particular the snapshot feature. I don't know why it isn't on the GUI but it is avaliable on my dlink - I prefer to access the camera through my router & port forwarding & use the GUI.

I don't know why D-link would have the snapshot feature on the my dlink page but not the GUI?

Also lately when volume is enabled I get loud static whenever looking at video view until I mute it - does any one else have this issue?

I have the DCS-5020L, which is an identical camera and firmware, except for the wireless extender and case color. I've never had any issues with sound or static.

I agree with you on the lack of user controls on the web UI (e.g. volume, snapshot, and other nice-to-haves). I'm not sure what you mean by "position presets can't be done from the main viewing window". The LIVE VIDEO page in the web UI contains a Go To menu containing the presets... unless you are referring to mydlink?

With my trendnet, from the main viewing page I was able to set and/or change the preset positions, as I often had to do if someone bumped the camera or it got moved etc.  With the Dlink I have to go to the camera control tab in the setup menu to set the preset positions, then back to the viewing page to use them.

Just an annoyance, as are the other points, but enough of an annoyance I may be swayed towards Trendnet for my 2nd cam I want to put in place.

Personally, configuring the preset positions on another page doesn't bother me as that's something that I don't have to change with any frequency. The one thing I do think is lacking is the ability to access the preset positions from mydlink. Clicking over to different camera locations via a mobile app is painful.

Please add any change requests you may have to the DCS-5010L - Firmware Wishlist (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=55710.0) thread.
