Title: dir-655 wireless status page listed as off
Post by: howls on May 21, 2014, 02:49:42 PM
hello all,

i have a brand new DIR-655 REV B, i bought to replace a older DIR-655 REV A.  i found out that you cant save the router configuration from the REV a and apply it to the REV B.  so i had to manually set up my network again.

thats not the problem  what is the problem is now a few days of it running the wireless signal has dissappeared.  several devices can not se it and the status page lists it as off, even though the setup wireless manual page states the wieless is enabled and is set to always on  and signal strength is high.

i fear the answer is going to be to reset the router to factory defaults and test.  i am also wondering if i save the router configuration will the problem follow?

UPDATE:  oh some additional information i am on firmware version 2.11 updated from 2.0 i think it was.

FW Update Process (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42457.0)

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using? Happen in other browsers?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Can you post a screen capture of this page please?

i am a NA region.  i am using chrome to view it on a system that didnt configure the router (i had to RDP to a wired desktop from work to check the settings).  so i dont think its a cached issue.  i can try and checnge chromes settings when i get home.

if i were to re-do the firmware  which one should i use,  and which one came with the rev B router?  i want to say it was 2.07 or 2.03  or should i stick with 2.11?  i did do a factory reset before i pushed the firmware to it.  odd thing was the subnet that the router was configured for out of the box was a 192.168.5.1, one of the reasons i factory reset.  i pushed the firmware then i tried to upload the old routers configuration the REV A router to the REV B.  after some researcxh i found that wont work.  so i had to manually setup the network.  and all was working for a grand total of  2 days.

and which screen shot would you like the status page showing the wireless off next to the manual set up showing its enabled?

also is there a different interface to turn on and off the wireless?

OK,  i factory reset the router,  pushed the 2.11NA firmware, performed another factory reset and still teh same problem.

i attempted to downgrade to 2.07NA by factory resetting the router,  pushing the firmware and factory resetting the router again and same problem.

i went to setup under manual wireless configuration and unchecked enable on the wireless and rebooted.  i noticed the wireless indicator on the front of the router is off,  so i re-enable it and reboot again.  the indicator comes on.  but still the same problem the status page lists wireless radio as off and i can not find it via any wireless devices.  i also checked to ensure that no schedules were enabled and they are not.

any other suggestions?

So if you set wireless mode to G or Mixed G and in with no WiFi security, do any devices see the SSID name and connect?

correct, after factory reset it puts it in mixed mode and there is no security.  i also verified that teh SSID is listed as visible

Ya, going to say that this router is not working right, so I'll recommend that you return it to the place of purchase and get another, refund or phone contact D-Link support and ask for a RMA.

Sorry it happens to be yours...these are good routers. I've enjoyed mine.

There is the new Rev C model out as well.

Let us know what you decide.  ;)

yeah,  i concur.  I have had my first Dlink 655 for close to 8 years now,  and it still works.  i bought another one to drop another access point in a distant part of the house.  I wil most likely call Dlink to get an RMA since i would like another one.

at any rate thanks for the help
