Title: Using DIR-868L as a default gateway / dhcp server
Post by: userdld on June 05, 2014, 02:41:05 AM
hi!

In my work place we have a guest wifi setup for our clients who range between 200 to 500 daily. The current setup is as the following:

isp modem 100mb connecion -> Dlink DSL-2750U > switch -> multipul access points

The issue with my current setup is most devices get stuck on obtaining IP address and the 2750 becomes in accessible. I figured maybe the router cant revoke and handout ip address fast enough so I adjusted the lease time to 1 hour on the dhcp settings. Which made things weird. people get access to the internet, the router becomes in-accessible and it will only work for a while after restart. I guess till the dhcp client list fills up.

I was wondering for a setup like this which doesnt have lots of configuration, think of it as your personal home network without a proxy setup or much restriction. Would DIR-868L fix the hanging and dhcp issue im facing with this router? I also suspect the bandwidth of the line isnt supported by the router as I had a similar issue with my home network where i swapped a 655 with 868 and it worked like magic. probably fuzzy would remember me lol

Regards

Is this for a home or business? Having that many connected clients I presume that a home class router may not be sufficient for a large connection size..you may need a business class router for between the ISP connection and the switch.

United arab emirates - Middle east

Its for business. I used this router at home and it does support 100mb bandwidth connection from the ISP. I was thinking would it support that much dhcp assign and revoke requests.

If you think I should go with a business class router would you please recommend one?

YA, I'd recommend that you review the DSR series class of routers...
