This has been a rather strange problem for me. My internet connection was working fine for quite some time. Suddenly one day, my computer only gets connected to router but there is no internet connection. When i try to check the connection by connecting to modem directly, the internet connection is fine and working. But this is not the case when i try to connect through router. Plz help.

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.

- What region are you located?
- Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
- Has a Factory Reset (http://blog.dlink.com/what-is-a-reset-button-when-should-i-use-it) been performed?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
- Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)
- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
- If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm) and How NAT Works (http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/). To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For DSL or Fiber service lines, ensure that the ISP is using good working phone or cable lines to the DSL modem and that the phone lines are filtered correctly. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. I recommend having the ISP service physically check the lines going from the out side to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

These are my details:
1. Hardware Version of router: A1
2. Firmware version: 1.14
3. Region: India
4. Connection to router: Wirelessly connected to router
5. Factory reset: Yes. Factory reset has been performed.
Modem details:
1. ISP: Cable.
2. Modem Model: Make:Cisco,Model: DPQ2160, Modem Mac: 602AD0A481EE
3. Modem IP: Dynamic IP
4. Modem Speeds: D/L: 1.8Mbps, U/l: 0.83Mbps
5. Cable b/w Modem and Router: Swapping done. (swapped with another cable, still no luck)
6. MTU: Default MTU is 1492. Found this in the router settings page. I haven't changed this. My Connection worked for some time with these settings.
7. Connection to Always on: Changed now. Was initially 'On-Demand'. Changed now, but still can't connect. I'm getting connected to router, but it shows 'Limited' Connection.
8. Modem with built-in router: Nope. This modem doesn't have built-in router.

Wireless Configurations

- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channel) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
- What wireless devices do you have connected?
- Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/support/metageek-software-archives/) to find out. How many?
- If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/30969-what-do-80211ns-optional-features-mean-for-you), WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

i've tried all you asked me, but still no luck. this is the final setup that i could come up with.
1. when i connect my modem to router (via cable), and then router to laptop (via cable): i can connect to my ISP and can access internet. It shows 'Connected'
2. but when i connect my modem to router (via cable), and then router to laptop (via WiFi): i can connect to my SSID, but cannot access internet. It shows 'Limited'.
i hope this throws some light at my problem. any help is greatly appreciated.

Disable the Security on the WiFi, use OPEN temporarily then see if your LT connects to the WiFi and gets Internet.

yes. after removing security,i can access internet on my tablet and mobile.

my default is AUTO-WPA/WPA2. This is the default option. this is the one i'm using.
