Title: Access Control - Please help
Post by: ttn234 on June 14, 2009, 09:34:10 AM
Hi,
Is there anyway to block all, but allow only 1 or 2 PCs to access internet at night? I can see that we can do it by blocking one by one, but kids can be smart enough to change MAC/IP address and get around with it.

use the schedule to allow only the few computers access to the internet.
make a schedule to block ALL others.

If you leave those PCs on (or link their IP to the MAC) then they cannot just change the MACs to get the ip.

the other option is to use OS controls.  windows Vista (I know a number of people just shuddered) has very nice built in controls that you can turn on that include timed internet access (a friend of mine activated this for his 10 year old niece and it works well).

Biggest thing to do... don't let them log on as admins.  if they are not admins they cannot change MAC or IP.  The biggest mistake in the windows world is letting everyone work as administrators.
