I can get either of these cameras for about half-off. Other than the pan/tilt in the 5222L cameras, how do these models compare and contrast, and which ones are preferred ?

What is your application for and intention? Hard to answer without knowing .

Indeed, need to know more about your intended use. They do have the same basic functions (720P video, record to SD card, etc.) But overall, the two cameras are fairly different. For starters, the 2332L has been discontinued, and is replaced by the 2330L, which is almost identical to it.
The 2332L/2330L is more of a professional camera, at least in features. It has networking stuff like SSL, RTSP, and QoS. It is also weatherproof and can be used outdoors. Additionally, it will let you record video to a network disk. I've not used the 5222L, but I have used its predecessor, the 5020L, and that one does not have any of those capabilities. The obvious plus for the 5222L is pan/tilt, which is a useful feature.
If you can say more about what you want the cameras for, we can help you further.

The 2332l has been discontinued? Then why, more than a year later, did dlink sell me one without telling me? I don't think it was discontinued.i got mine yesterday and love it. I can't believe how easy it was to set up. Can't see any reason to pay $30 more for the 2330l.
