Hi, I'm getting good speeds right now with the way my router is setup (just for internet and transfer of files from desktop to laptop) but since i'm connecting to the 5Ghz band with all my devices, I figure I should just turn OFF the 2.4Ghz band... is that doable and advisable?
My bonus question is I've enabled the QoS - should I? (i dont really understand it but something called Quality of Service sounded good lol)

Link>Welcome! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=48135.0)
- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Yes you can by un-checking the Enable check mark for the 2.4ghz radio then save settings.
Is Tru Gigabit Routing enabled under Setup/Internet?
If your getting good speeds on all devices and everything is working well, you might leave QoS disabled.

Hardware A1. Firmware 1.07. Canada. Cable.
For the 2.4Ghz, are you referring to ADVANCED --> ADVANCED WIRELESS SETTINGS? Yes
I dont see option for Tru Gigabit Routing. I only see a button for the wizard and one for manual. Id already set up and believe i had made sure to check anything that was gigabit...
Is this option under Setup>Internet/Manual? It maybe not be.
Im getting good speed with QoS enabled. I never checked with disabled...so i was asking if I should leave it alone or if I might get even better with it disabled.
Test with and with out QoS enabled. Won't hurt.

I cannot disable it...
Wireless Band:2.4GHz Band
Transmit Power: High
WLAN Partition: UNCHECKED
WMM Enable: CHECKED
HT 20/40 Coexistence: Enabled
The only item that is grayed out is WMM Enable... its checked and I cant change it.
Not sure what I need to adjust here to turn off 2.4Ghz...

No such option under Setup--Internet--Manual either...

Ok got it thanks!
But i still havent found the Tru Gigabit thing...

Ok, It's probably not on this router.
If QoS is working well for you then keep enabled or test with out it. Can always turn it back on. ;)

What would it affect? Speed of transmission?
And the way to test the effects of turning it on/off would be to test by right-clicking the properties of the wireless connection on say my laptop? (I was already getting 867Mbps with it turned on...)
-
No doesn't effect connection rates between the router and devices, it effects the data flow in and out from the Internet thru the router and to the devices.
-
So it could affect the speed of the smoothness of the internet received on my mobile devices then?
The connected speed would not change but the flow/smoothness might...
is this correct?
-
Correct.
